Pictures from the Past from Millstreet Museum Pictorial Archives

It is indeed a very real source of encouragement to initiate a regular feature from Millstreet Museum Pictorial Archives when we hear such uplifting comments from many people including Seán Barrett who enjoy our featuring of Pictures from the Past that we should consider delving into our Archive on a regular basis.   And, yes, this is what we hope to do as we gradually approach a New Year.  Thanks to Myra at the Museum we have digitalised several thousand photos ranging back decades which will be available to this and future generations.   To begin our regular feature we firstly caption the image we recently shared:

This special memory relates to the putting in place of the Christmas Tree at The Square, Millstreet in 1989. From left: Brendan Murphy, John “Sing” O’Sullivan, Thomas Galvin (the general), Kieran Murphy (Brendan’s son) and Bill O’Sullivan.  Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)

  1. Hello, have you got any photos from the sixties and early seventies? My family moved away in 1973 from Millstreet. Our name is Hennessy, from the West End. We moved to London. We would like to hear from someone that might remember us. Thank you for taking the time to read this, Marguerite and Yvonne

    1. Yes, Marguerite and Yvonne – We shall be featuring images from various decades over the next year. Our Museum opened in 1980 so many of the pictures date from that year onwards but we shall also feature any images from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s which are contained in our Pictorial Archive. Thank you for your much appreciated interest and indeed many people in the area remember the very popular Hennessy Family.

    2. We had great fun growing up in Millstreet together….. Hope ye are keeping well. Happy Christmas.

  2. Hi Sean the picture of xmas tree is incorrectly dated John Sing died Dec 1994. kieran Murphy was about 10 in the picture so i recon the pic between 1985 and 1989.

    John Murphy

    1. John…Sincere thanks for pointing out the fact that the most likely year of that image is 1989 instead of 1999 as we had incorrectly stated. Such corrections are much appreciated and makes accurate our records for future reference. We’ve corrected the caption.

      1. Sean the date error made it more interesting. I had go go research the details and it brought back great memories of John Sing and i cannot believe he is gone 24 years.
Keep up the good work and happy xmas

  3. The Marron family lived on Clara Road during the 1960…..would love to see any photos/info …..please
