The year is moving on at a very fast rate and the many worries and concerns that we had during the drought seem far behind. Christmas is only a matter of a few weeks away and during the long hot summer with its scorched lands and water scarcity, did we ever think that by December we’d have enjoyed bumper crops of fruit and vegetables and an abundant supply of grain and silage and hay. As well as the all important shed of turf. The fields are still a lush green and lots of cattle still out, and even at this late stage on our 2018 calendar there is still little need for home heating. And now,we can’t but thank the ONE who governs all, for such wonderful gifts. Buíochas le Dia.
The new drink driving laws of course are biting hard into the lives of our people. Every day we hear of yet another victim of its cruel laws. with even more of our friendly local pubs closing their doors. The huge amount of depression and isolation, that it has caused already is only the tip of the iceberg, to what it will bring as more and more people will be confined to loneliness. Gone are the times when a family member or friend can give a friendly call to an elderly person and share a friendly glass with them, if they do they cant drive home. These laws resemble the Penal Laws of old. Made with the stroke of a pen,with no thought of the consequences . It has only led to home drinking, which can be a massive problem in itself. And we all know that the joy of a social drink is in the company. Move on Eily.
Don’t miss the ten am Mass in our church tomorrow Wednesday morning, the little children from the National school will be singing and playing music. Its for the People of the Parish and the Holy Souls.

Christmas parties and company dinners will be the norm for the coming weeks in the run up to Christmas. Our Christmas Lights Committee held their church gate collection last weekend and the lights will be switched on on Friday December 7th.
This year there are some changes at the Monument in the Town Square, the focal point in our town. The surrounding barrier has been removed and a Christmas Lights feature will replace the customary Christmas Tree. We wish the committee every success with this change in the format of their annual task.
The Cullen and District Special needs Association will hold their annual Christmas Mass and Party on Saturday December 1st. Starting at 1.30
Charity Christmas Concert with the Kingdom Choir will be held in the Friary Church in Killarney on Sunday December 2nd at 5.30 Entrance fee is donations only.
The annual Christmas Mass and Party will be held at the Aubane Social Centre on Friday November 30th ,starting at 8. (The community singers will attend) Their Set Dancing Party on Monday December 17th. And their Christmas Day Climb of Mushera Mountain,will be held this year in aid of Air Ambulance. Their annual Round the Fire night Thursday December 27th.
I have a some copies of the life of the little Child Saint. ‘Little Nellie of Holy God’ who was born in Spike Island at the turn of the last century and whose grave is in Sundays Well in Cork City. The monthly meeting of the Community Council was held on Tuesday night last, and many important subjects were discussed, Please be on the look out for their 2019 calendar which will be in the shops in the near future.
