Eily’s Report – 26th June

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a Chairde and welcome to my Report.

The heatwave has well and truly started and everybody is finding their own way of dealing with it. For children, paddling pools and water sprays are just the thing for them to cool off .And would-be travellers thought better of staying home over the weekend rather that to wade into long traffic jams in pursuit of entertainment. Our National schools are closing in many places today, and we wish all concerned a happy holiday and with the lovely sunshine to start them off, how can they go wrong.

Cloghoula National School is closing for their Summer Holidays today, ending with Mass at 11.30 followed by a BBQ and other refreshments al fresco.

A record crowd attended the outdoor Mass at St. Johns Well in Mushera last Monday evening at 8. The Parish choir attended and  no less than six priests concelebrated Mass. The scenery from the mountain, well was awesome, and the red sunset lit up the evening skies. It was indeed a sight to behold.

Please let me remind you of a very important meeting which will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel tonight, Tuesday June 26th starting at 8. Organised by the Community Council, all the voluntary bodies, and businesses, of the area are asked to attend. The meeting is being held to plan  a community event to represent our town on Cultural Day, which is on September 21st. All the other communities in the country will be doing something special for their own places, on that day,  and please let us not feel lacking when the 21st of September comes.  Tonight’s meeting is a fact finding one when all ideas will be taken on board and the best ones picked to represent us on this year’s Cultural Day.

The annual Soap Box Day will be held on Sunday July 22nd. It is organised by our Men’s Shed every year and always proves highly entertaining. A special Mass for all those involved in our Eucharistic Adoration , in Millstreet and Cullen, will be said in Millstreet Church this evening (Tuesday), starting at 7.30. The Parish choir will attend, and refreshments will follow at the Pastoral Centre. And please be reminded that all are welcome to attend this Mass. Anybody who would like to join the Eucharistic Adoration  on a regular basis, will get all the information they need  after this Mass.

Our town is getting a welcome facelift at the moment with the renewing of new footpaths in the West End with those on the left hand side completed at work well advanced in the opposite side. Needless to say there will be a lot of clearing up to do when the task is completed and we are all asked to do our bit to keep Millstreet looking good. Already visitors to our town have remarked on how good it looks, so keep up the good work.
