Eily’s Report 20th February

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly report.

I must congratulate the lovely Maggie Moynihan of Coalpits in Cullen on winning the All Ireland Final of the Scór Solo Singing which was held in Sligo at the weekend. The people of Cullen and their award winning pipe band turned out amid blazing bonfires to welcome their young star home on Sunday evening. The last such accolade to be won in Cullen was back in the 70s which made Maggie’s win all the sweeter. No doubt we’ll be hearing more about her in the future.

The AGM of the Community Council will be held tonight at the Wallis Arms Hotel, starting at 8 and all are welcome.

Already the first  week  of Lent is over and the approach to making it special are changing. Instead of giving up some favourite food or tipple we are finding easier to do some good works for those around us. There are lots of folks needing a hand and the holy season of Lent is a great time to be there for them.

This is indeed a very special year when the Holy Father himself, Pope Francis will be here from August 21 to 26, to celebrate the World Meeting of Families. What an honour for our little country.

At  the Weekly Weigh In  in Cullen last night, 30 people attended and 43 pounds weight was lost and was followed by the lively jiving session.
