Where The Road Takes Me – On Air from 7pm on C103

Prior to their Open Day on Saturday July 15th next, John Greene returns to Bandon Fire Station to re -join the crew on this week’s edition of Where the road takes me.

In the concluding programme we look back at some of the major fires that the station fought down through the years.

The fire at Phelan’s paint shop on South Main Street in 1948 almost resulted in loss of life.

One of the town’s landmarks – The Mill was destroyed by fire in 1968, and there was also the fire at the cinema a number of years later,.

However, the fire at Flor Griffin’s Warehouse is regarded as being the worst and most dangerous fire, as emergency services considered evacuating the town.

We speak to some of the firefighters who attended these fires, and Eddie Goggin editor of the Opinion magazine delves into the archives to unearth the stories behind them
