Eily’s Report – 24th January

Last week the Machinery Show went on for two days at the Green Glens Arena was an outstanding success with entries coming from all parts of the country. Some from as far north as Co. Tyrone and Fermanagh.

And many of the local services benefitted from the influx of extra people into the area.

Well done to the people of Aubane who presented  the proceeds of their annual Christmas Day Climb of Mushera Mountain to representatives of the, Reach Out To Cancer Support Group, at a pleasant function which was  held at their Community Centre last week.

Many of our Voluntary bodies are holding their AGMs  at the moment.

 

The AGM of the Town Park Committee will be held at the Canon O Donovan Centre on Friday January 27th starting at 8pm.

 

The AGM of Our Pitch ‘n Putt Club will be held at the GAA Hall on Saturday January 28th, starting at 7.30

 

Millstreet Camogie Club will hold their AGM on Monday January  30th in the Parish Centre at 8.30.

 

The AGM of Millstreet Community Council will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday Jan 31st. Starting at 8.30 and all are welcome.

 

Cullen Special Needs Association hold their sponsored Weigh-in every Monday night starting at 8pm and the weighing is followed each week by jiving lessons which have proved very popular with many people turning up the take part.  All  are welcome.

Last night 60 weighed in and 80 pounds weight were lost.

 

Still with Cullen their popular National school are now issuing enrolment forms for children who will be starting school in September. Forms will be available from the school from Jan. 23 -27.

This week we welcome back the lovely Town Clock to the wall over John and Mary Lehane’s Shop on the Main Street. It has been away for repairs since before Christmas and we really missed its presence.

The Marian Players in Rathmore, are all  set for curtains up on their  30th  annual Pantomine. This time they are staging Sleeping Beauty with their first performance on Saturday Night January 28  at 7.30 and continuing until February 5th.

On January 28th the well known fiddle played Matt Cranwich will  recall the story of the late Dan Connell’s Pub in Knocknagree  to be told at the Community Centre in Scartaglin. Among others who will be with him on the night will be the renowned Jackie Daly. It’s a show not to be missed and it starts at 8pm in Scartaglin on January 28th.

Presentations will be made at our Museum on Monday night next January 30th  to the Museum Photocopier Project and the Aubane Defibrillator Fund, they  are part funded by the National lottery.

Here are the results of this weeks parish lotto draw which was held at Corkery’s Bar on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were 14, 20, 28, 31 and the Jackpot was not won.

€100 went to Number one at Moulding. The seller was Michelle Whelan and she got €50 sellers prize. €50 went to Tommy Collins Dromina, €20 each to Patricia Guerin, c/o Denis Cronin. Kathleen  and Eimer, Dooneen, Eileen Enright, Station Rd, Richard Culinane, c/o Tommy Tucker, Trish O Leary c/o Alps. Barry O Reilly, c/o Rita. Karen Hanley, Kilmeedy, and Eily Mae Walsh, c/o Marie Twomey. Jackpot for next week €8,400 the draw at the Malpasso Bar on Sunday night.

IRD Duhallow has issued a booklet which is full of information on all the classes and courses that they have to offer for Spring 2017. Their list is far too long for me to read out, so please give them a call or look out for their booklet. It free and guaranteed there is something in it for you.

The Eucharistic Adoration resumed both in Millstreet and Cullen Churches last week and there was a great response. With some people coming for the first time. And there’s room for many more. Please support this world wide form of prayer  , especially in these of worldwide unrest. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed in Millstreet Church every Tuesday and Wednesday until 10.30 at night and in Cullen on Thursdays from 10 am to 7pm.

Our Community Singers attended the vigil Mass last Saturday night, It was a special Mass for Families of Children who will be receiving their First Holy Communion this year. Also at that Mass  there was a collection on behalf of Kiera FitzGerald & Katie Crowley who will be going to India as part of the Hope Foundation and each of the girls spoke of their  journey at Masses over the weekend.

The Newly refurbished Canon O Donovan Centre has room for many more people for dinners and many other services. Give them a ring at 029 70926.
