Broadband Connection Points

Map of the Broadband Connection Points

Aubane Community Centre and Ballydaly Community Hall are two of three hundred locations across Ireland to get high-speed internet hubs while they await the arrival of the National Broadband Plan (NBP). National Broadband Ireland (NBI), said it will deploy “broadband connection points”, where the public can get free high-speed internet access, across the country from the second quarter of next year (2020). The measure is intended as a stop-gap for communities with the worst broadband coverage, he said. … Read more about this on the Irish Times.

Eily’s Report – 19th November 2019

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde, and welcome to my report.

The monthly meeting of the Community Council was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday night. It was well attended and many important items were discussed. In union with our Gardaí we are asked to renew our Text Alert accounts for the coming year. The project is proving very successful all over the country, bringing a sense of security to all those who have registered. Happy in the knowledge that our Gardaí are watching out for us at all times and letting us know by phone if something suspicious presents itself. For those who didn’t register at Tuesday’s  nights meeting please know that forms are available at both Wordsworth book shop in town and at Guerin’s Shop in Ballydaly where you will get help if needed. Cost €10. But please bear in mind that the opportunity closes on  November Saturday 30th.

The Millstreet Calendar for 2020 will be in the shops in the near future and proceeds this time will go to cost of the new children’s playground in the Town Park.

There will be no Christmas Party/Market in Millstreet this year.

“Where the Road Takes Me” on C103 This Evening

We thank Presenter, John Greene, for advance information on this evening’s programme – Sun. 17th Nov. 2019 from 7 to 8pm.  (S.R.)

A regular contributor to Where the road takes me, Bantry based GP Dr. Denis Cotter passed away on Sunday November 3rd last.

This week on the programme, John Greene chooses excerpts from the many editions he contributed to over the past seven years.

The end result is a look at the life and times of a man whose family can be traced back to 1839 in Bantry.

Coming from a well known bakery family in the town, Dr. Cotter graduated from medical college as a GP, later setting up a practice in Newtown.

In between, Denis played rugby for club and Munster, at a time when playing or attending foreign games resulted in a mandatory ban.

Playing Gaelic Football with Bantry Blues, he later became team doctor and trained the senior team to two County Senior football titles in 1995 and again in 1998. [read more …] ““Where the Road Takes Me” on C103 This Evening”

Supporting Millstreet Christmas Lights 2019

The wonderfully dedicated Millstreet Christmas Lights Committee are holding their annual Church Gate Collection this weekend.  Generous support not only helps to maintain the uplifting festive town decorations but also allows the purchase of even more superbly impressive light features.   It’s also truly encouraging that people from abroad such as Patrick W. O’Leary of Louisville, Kentucky post their generous and much appreciated donation from abroad to support such an important local activity.   Click on the images below to enlarge.  (S.R.)
