“Where the Road Takes Me” at 7pm this Sunday on C103

We thank Presenter, John Greene for advance information on this Sunday evening’s programme – 23rd Jan. 2022 at 7pm on C103.  (S.R.)

Where The Road Takes Me – Sunday 23rd Jan.

As a child, Aileen Crean-O’Brien had heard about the exploits of her famous Grand-father.  As she got older, it was her dream that one day she would follow in his footsteps, literally and physically.

It was a big dream, when you consider that her Grandfather was Tom Crean, a veteran of three major expeditions to Antartica and the recipient of the highest award for bravery and lifesaving, during the heroic age of exploration.

In a two-part programme on Where the road takes me, John Greene looks at the exploits of Tom Crean and the attempt by Aileen, her partner Bill, (now her husband) and her two sons, to follow the footsteps of her Grandfather to the ends of the earth and the most remote and dangerous part of the World.  [read more …] ““Where the Road Takes Me” at 7pm this Sunday on C103″

Remembering the late Meat Loaf at Green Glens in 1996

I recall meeting with the mother of the late Dolores O’Riordan of “The Cranberries” at Green Glens as she also waited to meet “Meat Loaf” in the Green Room following his performance on stage in Green Glens in 1996.  (S.R.)
Hannelie (O’Connor) indicates that the Meat Loaf Concert at Green Glens, Millstreet on Wednesday, 10th April 1996 was one of the very best Concerts which she has ever attended. Prior to the event this is how the “Irish Times” reported on the upcoming event: “Meat Loaf, Millstreet, Cork, April 10th and Point, April 11th. Welcome To The Neighbourhood is not Bat Out Of Hell III, but it might as well be. Expect plenty of Indiana Jones style theatrics, with Meat playing both Harrison Ford and Seán Connery.” May the amazing singer “Meat Loaf” rest in peace. Kathleen O’Sullivan, Ballydaly – First Anniversary & Acknowledgement

On the First Anniversary of our mother’s passing, we her family wish to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to all those who sympathised and supported us on our sad loss.

During her 10 year illness, Mammy was helped by so many great people . A special thanks to all the Public Health Nurses, especially  Elaine Reardon, Áine O’Riordan and Chris O’ Donoghue, Occupational Therapist, Doctors from Tullig Medical Center and the wonderful home helps, Eileen Coakley, Eileen Murphy, Margaret Cronin, Bebe White, and our neighbour Sheila McSweeney which gave us the opportunity to keep Mammy at home as long as was possible.

Her final years were spent in Millstreet Community Hospital in great comfort thanks to the tremendous care and respect she received from Margaret Collins and her staff.

Our thanks to those who sent Mass and Sympathy cards, floral tributes and those who wrote messages of condolence on R.I.P.ie .

We would like to express our appreciation for the support and kindness of our neighbours, friends and relatives and all who lined the roadside, those who came and waited outside the funeral home and the Church and everyone who joined the funeral Mass online.

We would like to acknowledge the great work carried out by Davy Tarrant and his staff. They always ensure that everything goes smoothly for a grieving family during what is a very stressful and and sad time and for this we are truly thankful.

We would like to give a special mention to Fr. Jack Fitzgerald.  Fr.  Jack called to Gortavehy for many years and that meant a lot to all the family.  We would like to thank him especially for doing such a beautiful Mass.   It gave us great consolation to have her honoured in such a lovely way.  We would also like to thank Sharon and Julie, Jerry Doody and all who contributed to making the Mass so special.

As it is impossible to thank everyone individually please accept this as a token of our sincere gratitude.

Anniversary Mass will be held on Sunday 23rd January at 11.30am in St. Patrick’s Church Millstreet.

Anne O’Sullivan, Ballydaly – Acknowledgement & Sincere Thanks

The Family of Anne O’Sullivan, Ballydaly would like to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all those who helped and supported us during the past few weeks.  Her final days were made so much more comfortable due to the professionalism and loving tender care of the staff at Millstreet Hospital. They all took such phenomenal care of her for the 15 months that she was a resident there. It’s wasn’t a hospital as such, but a home from home. Whilst it’s unfair to single out anyone as they were all so brilliant to her, we just have to acknowledge Heidi as they were really partners in crime.. making Glitter Bomb cards for us that made a huge mess when delivered to us! Valerie tried to keep them on the straight and narrow, but she was fighting a losing battle.. Her co-residents became her second family. Julia who was always ready with a kind word and said the Rosary for her in her final days Finbarr who made sure the curtains were pulled down every night. Pat who always stopped at the door to say goodnight And John who had some great chats with her. Thanks to Davy, Cora and staff at Tarrant’s Funeral Home as they made her final journey so easy for her and us all. Fr. Jack and Fr. Seán did such a beautiful Mass. Fr. Jack was a regular caller to Anne and John Anthony’s over the years and Fr. Seán had married them in 1965 and buried them both. Thanks to Sharon in the Parish office who did up such a lovely booklet. Thanks to Sacristan Julie for all her help and to Joan for such beautiful music. We are very grateful to all the staff of Millstreet Hospital who formed a guard of honor on her leaving the hospital and all the friends, neighbours and extended family that lined the road from Millstreet Hospital to the funeral home and then through the Town and onto the Graveyard. Her final prayers were broadcast over John Anthony’s public address speakers which were were set up by Timmy and Martin Lucey. Thank you to all the family, friends and neighbours that took the time & trouble to drop off food to us. There were so many gestures of kindness from so many people that we as a family appreciated and will never forget.   A Mass for everyone who helped and supported us in any way will be celebrated in the near future in St. Patrick’s Church. Millstreet. Go raibh maith agaibh go léir.
