The response to the fundraising Daffodil Day 2019 in aid of the Irish Cancer Society within the Millstreet area was hugely supportive with a most impressive total (as of now) of €4,100.00 lodged into the account of the Irish Cancer Society. We thank Phil Sheehan of the Coordinating Team for the update. This is a very encouraging result from today’s tremendous work by several Volunteers outside Herlihy’s Centra, Millstreet Post Office, Supervalu and Coleman’s Centra – especially when one considers that weather truly affected the overall national response and the ICS is not confident that the annual target of €4 million will be reached this year so nationwide the appeal continues. Here we feature some 10 images from today’s Daffodil Day in Millstreet Town. The Organising Team extends sincere thanks for such a superb response here in Millstreet. Click on the images to enlarge. This Friday, 22nd March 2019 is National Daffodil Day in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. Dedicated Volunteers are at a variety of venues throughout Millstreet Town. The generous support for such a praiseworthy cause is greatly appreciated. Yesterday on 21st March in Millstreet G.A.A. Community Hall a special Coffee Morning for the very same cause was most successful and had been coordinated by Mary Fitzgerald (in red on third image below). We share a selection of images from that event. Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.) [read more …] “Today is National Daffodil Day in Aid of Irish Cancer Society”

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde, and welcome to my report.
Whichever way you look at it we had a wonderful St. Patrick’s weekend here in Millstreet. It had something for everyone and the weather was good.
Saturday a convoy of double decker buses, went through our town ferrying over 5000 revelers to the annual Tech Works Festival at the Green Glens Arena.
On Saturday night our Comhaltas Ceoltóirí group played in the Church at the 6.30 Mass. Then on St. Patrick’s Day our wonderful Pipe band played at the church grounds as people were going in to the 11.30 Mass which was conselebrated by three local men, Fr. Paddy O Byrne, Fr. Billy Radley and Fr. Sean Tucker. Then the band played while entering the church and took part in many parts of the mass. The Church Choir attended and their combined grand finale literally lifted the roof, when they joined our lovely organist Jane to play a rousing recital of Highland Cathedral. No words of mine could do justice to the joy it brought to all in the church on St. Patrick’s Day. Spellbound, is the best way to describe it.
My partner and I are hoping to start renting in Millstreet, either the town or just outside the town. He lives locally but we are finding it hard to find houses. We are first time renters, one a teacher, and one a software developer.
If there is anyone with any information, my number is 086 3312958. Thanks a million, Cathrena.

In November 2015, David Nolan from Kilcorney, and his girlfriend Katie survived the terror attack at the Bataclan theatre in Paris which claimed the lives of 90 people. A month later David proposed, and the couple went on to welcome a beautiful daughter in to their lives in 2016. Last December, they received news that no parent wants to hear, and the couple joined Ryan Tubridy on the Late Late Show to discuss their daughter’s life changing diagnosis. See the full interview on the RTÉ Player. Below is a shorter clip from the interview:
Blessed with fresh weather conditions on Sunday 17th March 2019 the wonderful morning tradition was upheld of St. Patrick’s Day Mass in St. Patrick’s Church where the Millstreet Pipe Band truly enhances the liturgy especially with the magnificent “Highland Cathedral” with pipes and organ (the repeat of which may be heard this Tuesday at 10pm on “Radio Treasures” on Cork Music Station) and also gives a brief recital in the Church Grounds. The organist with the Millstreet Choir was Jane Daly. The Celebrant of the Mass was Fr. Billy Radley with Concelebrants Fr. Paddy O’Byrne and Fr. Seán Tucker. Here we share some 21 images from the very special annual occasion. The Band took part in the Parade at 5pm for the amazing 67th time. Present in our group image are two of the Members who have been in the Band since the early 1950s – Tim O’Shea and Liam Coffey. Click on the pictures to enlarge. (S.R.) It’s rare to see double decker buses in Millstreet but on Sat. 16th March 2019 a number of them were part of the transport bringing huge numbers of enthusiastic young people to Green Glens for the annual TechWorks Festival. Participants travelled from many parts of Ireland and some came from the UK also. The event commences shortly after midday and ended at midnight. The occasion was very well coordinated and security was most professional. Such was the volume of the modern music that it echoed beyond Green Glens. Clearly it was a happy and enjoyable occasion for the great number of participants. We thank Thomas, Pat and Muireann and the TechWorks organisers for permitting us to share images from the very colourful event. Click on the pictures (almost 40) to enlarge. (S.R.) Maintaining a wonderful tradition at St. Patrick’s Church in Millstreet – Members of Millstreet CCÉ played a number of superb traditional airs at Mass on the Eve of St. Patrick’s Day 2019. Last year’s Carriganima Parade took place in snowy conditions as illustrated in our 2018 images. It was Fr. Anthony Wickham who was Grand Marshal of the ever popular Parade. Shane McCarthy of Carriganima very kindly assisted us in video recording the wonderful event. This year’s Parade takes place on this Monday at 3pm. Everyone is very welcome. As always a mighty atmosphere at The Pub follows where many assemble. Seán Murphy, Coordinator supereme, will as usual act as MC on the day during which his commentary of the Parade is always both witty, humorous and informative. And Seán has just informed us that this year’s Grand Marshal will be the very same Fr. Anthony Wickham. Click on the images to enlarge. (S.R.)
