Dromtariffe Parish Weekly Newsletter

Dear Parishioners

Please God the tide is turning on the pandemic.  It has been tough all around, but people have been so wise and consistent in these changed times.  With the help of God, we will be able to return to community living & church gatherings.  Hoping ye are all coping & that good neighbours are looking after each other.

A special thank you for your generosity in continuing with the parish envelopes.  We will take a hit financially so please keep up the financial support for parish.  I am very grateful for your support for me personally.  May the Lord reward your generosity.

Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.  As no public Mases are allowed, we will have the usual packets of blessed Ashes at the back of both churches.  Trócaire boxes will also be available at the back of church if you can help out in some way the destitute of the world.

May God bless our homes & families & all our parishioners.

Fr Tom

Ash Wednesday 2021

Ash Wednesday, February 17th, is a day of fast and abstinence. To celebrate Ash Wednesday and the start of the Lenten season, the people of the diocese are invited to participate in Masses online. Lent calls us to ‘come back to God with all our heart’ and the practices of prayer, fasting and giving to charity are a way of making real our return to God. Ashes marking our foreheads remind us of our human frailty and our dependence on God. This year, people are invited to trace the sign of the cross on themselves or on each other’s foreheads at home. Marking Ash Wednesday at Home is a prayer resource available on the diocesan website, www.dioceseofkerry.ie

First Sunday of Lent — February 21, 2021
That prayer, penance and alms giving will enable more men and women to follow the Holy Spirit as He leads them to discover their vocations in Christ, we pray to the Lord.

  • Trócaire

Trócaire express their gratitude to all in the diocese for our 2020 diocesan contribution. Despite having no congregations at Easter our return was over €110,000 – two thirds of previous years.

Thank God for the Christian generosity of so many in our parishes.

Every year Trócaire asks for your help during Lent to fund lifesaving programmes around the world. Families like Awut and Ajak’s in South Sudan need your support now more than ever. Trócaire are appealing to you to continue your support this Lent. Resources, prayers, and videos are available on www.trocaire.org and donations can be made to the Lent campaign in the following ways:

  1. By collecting a Trócaire box at the back of the church
  2. Online at trocaire.org
  3. By phone: 1850 408 408 (ROI) or 0800 912 1200 (NI)

The contents of each and every Trócaire box, no matter how small, come together to make a significant difference. This virus knows no borders, but neither does our compassion.
