Catherine (Kathleen) Linehan

Catherine (Kathleen) Linehan, born on April 6, 1937 in San Francisco, California, entered into eternal rest on January 20, 2021. Beloved daughter of the late Patrick and Mary Murphy and beloved wife of the late Jerry Linehan. Loving mother of Nora Daly (Paddy) and Patrick Linehan, and loving Nanny to Catherine and Sean Daly. She is preceded in death by her sister Joan Godfrey. She is survived by her brother in law George Godfrey, her nieces Mary and Teresa, her nephews George Jr., Dan, Michael, and late Johnny, her cousins Donal (Mary) and Patrick Joseph in Cloghoula, Millstreet, Co. Cork, Ireland, as well as many other relatives in the United States, Ireland, and England.

She was a member and past president of the Rebel Cork Ladies Association, a board member of the United Irish Societies, and president of the Drishane Club. In 1999 Catherine was a co-Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick’s Day parade along with her late husband, Jerry. She was born in the Haight Ashbury and was a graduate of St. Agnes Grammar School, Presentation High School, and University of San Francisco from which she obtained her degree in nursing. She proceeded to intern at St. Mary’s hospital before going to work at Laguna Honda Hospital, where she would spend the bulk of her career. She was an avid piano and accordion player and headed her own band which performed at many Irish community functions. She was also an avid cook and baker, providing food for various events. Many considered her Irish bread to be the best tasting in all of the Bay Area. She was beloved by so many around the world and will be deeply missed.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dorothy Delgadillo and the rest of the Health Link Hospice staff for their kind and attentive care. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, there was a very small, private service and committal to Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery where she now lies with her beloved Jerry. Once the Covid-19 situation improves, the family plans to have a larger memorial service open to the public as a fitting tribute to the amazing person she was.

Catherine was a true lady, kind and generous to everyone. She was a wonderful friend to me in
Mill street and on many trips to San Francisco to visit our late aunt Sheila who was a dear friend of
Jerry and Catherine. May they all now rest in peace. Our lady of Tubrid pray for them.
Sincere sympathy also from my sister Margaret.
