Obituary of Hannah (aka Joan) Gleason, passed away November 3, 2020.
Joan was born to John and Hannah Callanan in Tullig in 1928. She made the courageous journey to the United States in her teenage years. She married the late Francis “Frank” Gleason and had three children, John, Michael and Joan. She became a long-time resident of Pompton Lakes and an active member with St. Mary’s RC Church.
Joan was known to have a green thumb and tended to her flower garden with much care. She was deeply passionate about the importance of voting she would continuously volunteer as a poll taker. She loved to be surrounded by her family when she could, especially her grandchildren. Joan had a full life and enjoyed the moments she could. She kept her family and close friends close to her heart.
Joan is survived by her two children Michael and his wife Margaret, and John and his wife Alice; her grandchildren, Anthony, Erin, Sean and Daniel. Joan is predeceased by her daughter, Joan Peters and her granddaughter, Nicole.
The family will welcome guests Saturday, November 7 from 2-4pm at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home for visitation. A funeral service will start at 4pm to close the services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Mary’s RC Church in Pompton Lakes. The funeral home is at a restricted capacity of 37 people in the building at a time. We ask that guests keep their visits brief, if possible, to accommodate anyone that may be waiting. There may be a chance of waiting outside so please dress accordingly. Masks will be required, and contact tracing information will be taken. [ref]
