Anyone know the name of these beautiful birds that land and take off so very gracefully in the Town Park?   Andy have very kindly identified the birds as Starlings.

  1. The beautiful birds in your beautiful photos are starlings. Starlings are small to medium-sized passerine birds in the family Sturnidae. The name “Sturnidae” comes from the Latin word for starling, sturnus. Many Asian species, particularly the larger ones, are called mynas, and many African species are known as glossy starlings because of their iridescent plumage. Wikipedia
You’ll have me starting a bird blog.

  2. When starlings are in flight together, it is called a murmuration. These murmurations can have thousands of birds and are one of natures wonders. I have seen the Red Arrows, US Air Force and Singapore Air Force in action in various locations, but starlings are the ultimate aviation experts when it comes to formation flying.
