Our condolences go to the family of Paddy Mulcahy from Cork who died while out walking on Musheramore just above the Millstreet Country Park last Sunday September 13th during the recent fine spell. His son Thomás has written about this on his blog.
Paddy died suddenly on a lovely sunny September day in a beautiful spot called Musheramore, a small hill in northeast Cork, near Millstreet, while out hillwalking with his wife and friends.

Sudden death of North Mon principal

A WELL-RESPECTED trade unionist and Cork city secondary school principal, Paddy Mulcahy, 60, is being mourned by family and friends after passing away suddenly while out walking yesterday.
A former teacher at Deerpark CBS and principal of North Monastery CBS since 2007, it is understood Mr Mulcahy, originally from Blarney Street in Cork city, suffered a massive heart attack yesterday afternoon, and died shortly afterwards.
He was a former member of the Association of Secondary Teachers (ASTI) executive committee, a former chairman of the Cork City South branch of the union, and a current member of its editorial board. A spokeswoman for the ASTI said his death had come as a great shock.
“Paddy will be a great loss to his school, the ASTI and to education. Our thoughts are with his family at this time,” she said.
Mr Mulcahy was also a prominent member of the Householders Against Service Charges group, and he was among five campaigners jailed in relation to service charges in the 1990s, serving a short sentence for refusing to pay water charges.
Mr Mulcahy had celebrated his 60th birthday in recent weeks.
Close friend and fellow ASTI member, Mick Evans said: “I have been a close friend of Paddy’s for a long number of years. He was a fantastic member of the ASTI and highly regarded. He was very principled and of great integrity, and anybody who worked with him had tremendous respect for him.”
Survived by his wife Terry, three sons Tomás and Eoghan and Seamus, and daughter Brid, Mr Evans said his family were “devastated” by his loss.

The sun shone beautifully as Paddy was laid to rest, somebody was smiling down at him, as we all were with such happy memories of a great man in everything he did, but above all else a family man.

Just returned from holiday abroad am shocked and saddened to hear of Paddys death. I had the honour of meeting him while my son attended Nth Mon School many times, often to both mine and Paddys dismay! He was an amazing man whom i hold much respect for and his absence will be a massive loss to the North side of Cork. Rest in Peace Paddy XX
I am Paddy’s sister and Iam deeply shocked and saddened by his sudden and untimely passing. Yesterday I visited Musheramore and I got great comfort from the fact that he died in one of the most beautiful places in the world. He couldn’t have chosen a more amazing spot to end his life’s journey.
