Eily’s Report – 12th November

‘Oh the cold wind doth blow and we shall have snow, and what will the Robin do then, poor thing’. What will any of us do for that matter, except to take heed of the warnings and take every measure  to deal with it.  For a long time now we’ve been blessed with  very mild weather which has left us in a  false sense of complacency and assurance that it ain’t going to rain no more.  Then all of a sudden the warnings spring up telling us that we are in line for a spell of frost and snow and wind and rain. If we are wise we will pay heed. But if it never happens well so be it but we are prepared.

So many things have to be considered, care of people ,and stock of course, also family pets. Some in cages in the garden, others such as donkeys or ponies. The cold snap hits them the same as it effects ourselves. Bird feeders also must come into action and the crow that I saw burying a nut some months ago, I hope he will find his stash in good nick to tide him over the bad spell.

You can’t turn your back in Millstreet for a minute or you’ll miss something. I was away from Friday to Sunday and missed the blessing of the graveyards,  the two day SelfBuild Show at the Green Glens, and lots more.

A Fundraising American Tea Party in aid of Cuain Mhuire Care Home was held at Ovens  Community Centre on Friday night last.  It was very well supported and Millstreet was well represented. Not least among them our own Sean Radley who was busy with his camera to put it on record, also 90 plus Lally Healy, Pound Hill also attended.

 I’m told a very large crowd attended the two day  SelfBuild Show at the Green Glens. It never fails to draw the crowds.

A very important meeting of the Community Council will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel tonight. All members please attend. Starts at 8.30 sharp.

I must say hello to Michael Cronin and his lovely wife Wilhelmina,(Willy) who took time out from their   tour of Ireland to visit Fr.Paddy who was their parish Priest in Nebraska many years ago. They came by here over ten years ago, when I had the honour of having them stay at my B&B.  While having refreshments at a busy Cinnamon Cafe yesterday,we were joined by Sean Radley who added great flavour to their short trip by treating them to a visit to his wonderful Museum and sign the visitors book. (Just the thing for a cold wet day)  before they took the 4 o’clock train to Dublin to rejoin their tour bus. I’d like to say many thanks to this  lovely couple  for going to so much trouble to visit  us in  Millstreet.

I have a note here from the Ballyday Social Group to say that they have plans to hold  a course entitled ‘Hands for Life’, Free CPR training, run by the Irish Heart Foundation, it enables people to be aware of the threat of stroke, heart attack and what to do in time of emergency. It’s to be held in Ballydaly Hall on Tuesday November 26th at 8 p.m. Admission free. Closing date to book a place for this important course in November 20th.

Here are the results of this weeks lotto draw which was held at McCarthy’s Bar on Sunday night Numbers drawn were 12,13,16,28, and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Justina Lynam, The seller was Tom Carroll and he got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Joanne and Kathleen, Carriganima, €20 each to Best Brothers, Anne Marie O’Mahony, DJ.Golden, Tullig, Con O’Connor ,Doggie Mar, Margaret Murphy, Cloghoulabeg, Mick Mullane, Noreen Creedon, Ballyvouskil  and Willie O’Connell, Cullen. Jackpot for next week €5,400 the draw at the Clara Inn on Sunday night.

In this cold weather the place to go for your exercise is our adult gym in the youth complex. There is a machine to suit all needs and the lovely Michelle a qualified trainer  there to help and advise you. It’s open every morning from 9.30 to 12.30 and again at 5 pm. Tune in to Sean Radley on Line on Tuesday nights on Cork Music station  and please take note that Sean’s program can be heard all over the world, so let your friends abroad know that they can get lots of enjoyment from 9.30 to 11 Irish time every Tuesday night, with  Sean.

Our Local Library is  hosting a Play on tomorrow Wednesday at 11, entitled Crossword.

Millstreet Gramaphone Circle Meeting on Friday next November 15th. Presenter Michael Drew. Starts at 8.15 and all are welcome.

Eucharistic Adoration  continues to be promoted all over the world, for the benefit of all, and its important that we continue  to support it too, in Millstreet Prayer Chapel every Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.30 to 10.30 pm In Cullen on Thursdays from 10 am to 7 pm and in Ballydaly on Saturdays from 10.30 to 12.30.

Our prayer Campaign for the Holy Souls for November is into its second week and the  intentions are to ‘Pray for the souls of Popes, Cardinals, Bishops, Priests and Religious’. Indulgences can be gained for the Holy Souls this month by visiting a graveyard and praying there for the dead.

Again please take care of others during this  spell of harsh weather, remember a little fragrance always stays on the hand that gives roses.
