The new Irish Community Rapid Response(ICRR) Service was launched this week by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Simon Coveney with many other local politicians present as well as the management crew of the new service. We are indeed delighted to have this service centered on our doorstep. How fortunate we were to have an Aerodrome complete with hanger etc in the locality ready made to receive the helicopter and staff and all that goes with it.
Those of us who have lived in the area all our lives can recall when the McCarthy family who ran a popular and much needed pipe and tile business in Rathcoole built the Aerodrome. It was at a time when air travel was in its infancy and the development created quite a stir in the locality. Times changed and the sound of local planes faded from our skies and from our minds. Little did we think that the site would come to life again in 2019 and become the base for a life-saving service which can fly any casualty from the catchment area to our best hospitals in a matter of minutes.
To quote from the words of the organisers, “Irish Community Rapid Response,(ICRR) are a Charity committed to providing safe, effective and timely emergency medical care to those seriously ill or injured in Ireland through the provision of a network of Volunteer Doctors, Rapid Response Vehicles and a dedicated Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) that are tasked through the 999/112 call system.”
It won’t come cheap and will cost about two million a year to run, so please give it your support at every opportunity. Many fundraising events will come on stream and please give them your best support. We wish the new service Gods Blessing and every success through the coming years.
Fundraising was almost the order of the day here last week, with the Barrett Family (Aubane) holding A Style Night at the GAA Hall on Friday night, in memory of their late sister Abina Karen . It was very well supported and the proceeds were in aid of MaryMount Hospice.
On Saturday the Traders in the sunny side of the town Square held an exciting 24 hour Spinathon at the Monument in aid of The Irish Cancer Society. It was both enjoyable and successful, with many bodies, such as the Gardai and clubs doing a stint. Well done to all those who raised great funds and all those who helped in any way.
The Aubane Social Club will present the proceeds of their recent fundraiser to a Representative from MaryMount at a function to be held at the social Centre tomorrow Wednesday night. All Welcome.

The list is mounting up for Culture Night September 20th . The list so far includes our Museum which will be open from 6 to 7 pm. The Vintage Club will be present in the Town Square, exhibitions of photos, arts and crafts will be on display at the E-Centre from 6 pm and there is free entertainment at the Wallis Arms Hotel at 7.

Eily, the airfield in Ratchoole has been in constant use since it opened.The flying club has
several planes and it is used as a training area for other flight schools.The fact that it is licenced and run to a very high standard and so central made it very attractive to ICCR.
