Sliabh Luachra Cycling Club weekly update

Our juvenile Racers were in Greenmount, Limerick Racecourse once again on Friday last competing in the third and final round of a three week league. Well done to all our competitors and in particular those starting out, who completed competitively for the first time during the three weeks (Abaigh Dennehy and Jamie Kelly).

The first round of the Kerry County Road Race league took place in Beaufort on Thursday last with a number of strong performances including Denis O Connor and Ben Murphy finishing in the Top 6 of the scratch race which included the top adult talent in the county. Aidan Morley and Dinny Murphy made the top six in the Under 14 race with Kate Murphy, Sean P Fleming, Keenan Dennehy and Nicholas Buckley doing likewise in the Under 12 race. A special mention to Ciaran Finnegan who took a nasty fall in Beaufort which will keep him out of action for a few weeks. The second week of Fermoy Cycling Club Hennessy Cycles Summer League (for both adults and juveniles) was on Tuesday last, with rounds on every Tuesday for the Summer months. Thanks to all the parents who supported the club in travelling to the races over the past few weeks.

Training for Juveniles interested in either leisure or competitive cycling continues every Saturday at 9am.

Well done to all members who cycled the scenic Ring of Beara on Saturday. Some enjoyed it so much that they are already committing to next year’s event. Last Sunday morning’s club spin had two groups out both cycled a 100km. Our “couch to Ring of Kerry” group are well on schedule for an epic day on the day of the event.

The Sliabh Luachra Club Sportive takes place on 30th June next with 3 routes to choose from – a 105km or a 75km challenge, following the same route as last year and a family focussed 20km route. The cycle starts at 9am from Teach Iosagain Rathmore – plenty time to get the training in yet!
