Wonderful Gathering for Unveiling of John & Lena Plaque in Millstreet Town Park

It was John O’Keeffe’s niece – Peg O’Keeffe of Drishane Road, Millstreet – who this Monday morning (11th March 2019) officially unveiled the very impressive plaque at the Bridge in Millstreet Town Park in the presence of a wonderful cross section of local people and visitors including relatives from Mitchelstown of the late Lena.   Members of Millstreet Tidy Towns and Members of Millstreet Town Park were also present.   Chairman of Millstreet Town Park Committee – Denis Twomey – delivered a superb speech acknowledging the amazing contribution both John and the late Lena made to Millstreet over several years.   Denis Hickey and his Team had the ground and plaque placement splendidly prepared.   Here we share some 18 images illustrating what a very special occasion it was – blessed, thankfully, by perfect weather conditions.   Click on the images to enlarge.  (S.R.)

Belle Brosnan (with her Grandmother) points to the new plaque. Belle’s Grandfather, the late Neily O’Leary, devoted lots of dedicated time to the care of the Town Park and Millstreet environs.
Áine Collins was among those who were instrumental in accessing funding for Millstreet Town Park and hugely respected the inspirational efforts of John and Lena.

And we share a further 13 images from this morning’s historic occasion.

  1. Congrats to all involved in erecting the plaque to honour Johnny and the late Lena. They did trojan work in the town park and around the town and surrounding areas for many years. So nice to remember their contribution in this way.

    1. Yes indeed, Maura – You express it so very well and you echo the sentiments of so many people. It was truly uplifting to celebrate the occasion on Monday morning in the company of such a great gathering.
