Eily’s Report 31st July

Dia is Mhuire díobh go léir a chairde and welcome to my Report.

I’m glad somebody has highlighted the structures at the Mount Leader House again. They can be seen on our website at the moment. I have been asking about them over the years without getting any answers as to what they were used for. I think they were a feature in many lordly estates. If you look at page 18 of Seán Radley’s wonderful book, Picture Millstreet, you’ll see a man making a speech standing on a similar one in the Coomlogane Estate, long before it became the Green Glens. Needless to say we’d love to learn more about these lovely sturdy stone structures, so let us keep on digging.

Still with MountLeader, The fundraising Truck Run which started out from the Industrial Estate on Sunday was a mighty success. The town stood still as the parade of power thundered through to town and on to its planned route, which took them on a picturesque tour of the county. It was all in aid of the little boy Jacob, who was born without eyes. His parents have decided to take him home to their native Poland, and we hope that the kindness of the Millstreet   people will go a long way in helping them in their new life back home.

And I was asked to seek your prayers for the repose of the soul of 9 year old Daniel Enoch, the little Polish boy who passed away at a Dublin Hospital in recent weeks. He was the only child of his Polish mother, and may the Good Lord console her now on her great loss.

The rain over the past week has put a smile on every face. Did we ever think we’d see the day. The need was the greatest ever, and compared to other places around the world, we have to be thankful to God for this great blessing of soft summer rain.

Wells went dry in a few places and farmers had to get the mega bores in to dig deeper in the their wells, some over 300 feet in order to get the flow running for their cattle. Once again our blessed Tubrid Well didn’t let us down, we all saved hard, and the taps never dried up. Baoichas le Dia.

This is the last day of July, and the Pope’s visit is on our doorstep.   We can only hope and pray that his visit will bring many blessings as he celebrates the World Meeting of Families, n our little country. Many of the venues are sold out but if you need any last minute information, give Sharon a ring at our Parish Office 02970043.

The Church Gate collection this weekend August 4/5 is in aid of our Museum and Website.  Please support it well .This once a year collection has to cover the cost of ,light, heat, insurance maintenance of the Museum and also the running cost of our WebSite which is our means of staying in touch with the world around us, and letting our people all over the globe know what’s happening at home.   Up to now this collection was taken up in Millstreet only….and this will also be the case this year but the organisers also appreciate people in Cullen and Ballydaly who very kindly assist in keeping this important service as vibrant as possible.

Many of our people are going on holidays now that the holiday season has come, and we wish them all a very enjoyable and safe break from the normal routine of life. Also we welcome those who have come here for their holidays, and remind them that they can find out what we have to offer on the many notice boards around the town. So many places to eat, places to visit, people to meet, and mountains to climb.
