A huge congratulations to Michael Thornton who has just completed the Beara Breifne Way this past Wednesday. He started the walk from Dursey Island on December 28th, and is pictured below with his son Michael at the monument to the Beara Breifne Way, beside the O’Rourke Castle in Leitrim, which marks the end of the walk. The Thorntons run Coolefield House, a B&B on the outskirts of Millstreet which is on the Beara Breifne Way!
For the local B& B’s: Daniel & Majella are hitting the road again and they’re currently looking for 12 more wonderful B&Bs to accommodate them for one night during their trip. If you have availability from 9th – 24th March and are interested in having your B&B feature on the show apply today. For more information see RTÉ.ie.
The recent super-moon on January 1st was exceptionally bright and the effect was even enhanced by some rare clound cover in the above photo taken from Altamount by Fr. James McSweeney. [2u.ie]
The super-moon is so called is when the moon is at its closest to Earth and thus at it’s brightest. We have one or more super-moons every year, but the clouds as shown above are much rarer and get no publicity because they are unpredictable and just appear. They are normal clouds, but the cloud is sitting on the highest point of a gravity wave, thus appearing to be in straight lines. [read more …] “Gravity Waves under a Supermoon”
