Eily’s Report – 1st August

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly report on this the first day of August.

Tomorrow August 2nd will see the opening of the Annual Millstreet Horse Show, which has been running here since 1979. Again entries are well on par with those of former years, and the stage is set for some very exciting times until next Sunday Aug6th. Admission is free all the way. And all services will be up and running plus free carparking. People here on holidays should not miss out on this opportunity to come and see the wonderful place that the Green Glens  is today . Along with the Eventing centre at Drishane the Complex is now World Class, and capable of staging World Class Events.  Come and see it at your leisure and don’t miss the mighty water wheel in Drishane, which says, The Wheel of Millstreet Keeps on Turning.

Hot on the heels of this show will be, The Millstreet  International Horse Trials will run from August 23-27th.

We wish the Duggan Family and their staff every success ,and fine weather in the days ahead.

Further new information signs have been erected in the town. One at the Gate of St. Patricks Catholic Church in the West End and the other beside the historic O’Regans Mills on the Station road.

Organised by the Community Council over a year ago, and since then,  trojan work went into delving into  history, so that the story of our Town could be copper fastened, for future generations to read.  The interest it created had to be seen to be believed. Some of our senior citizens came alive and racked their brains, as they made every effort to recall the things of the past. So well done all round.

We have many more interesting features in the area which are entitled to their place in history, and I’m sure  that the success of this recent development will go a long way to start the ball rolling again.

We are all asked to sign a petition in aid of an African Family who are in danger of being sent back to their own country where they would face  suffering  or even death. This is a genuine case and they urgently need your help. We  supported similar petitions in the past and with rewarding results. So please give them your support if you are asked to sign a petition for them. Contact Mona Linehan, Pat Breen, or Mona or Michael O’Sullivan.

The August issue of Duhallow Today will be in the shops this week. Its free and it full of helpful and enjoyable features.

Please take one for someone who may not be able to get it.

2017, this is the Centenary year of Our Lady’s  3rd Apparition in Fatima, and we are all asked to pray earnestly for the salvation of the world in these perilous times. Rosary meetings are being held, monthly, in many places throughout the country and indeed throughout the whole world. And we are all urged to take part. Last month a lovely Rosary Meeting was held at the Aubane Social Centre. The  August one will be held at the same place, on Monday next August 7th at 8. The program consists of saying the Rosary and the singing of some hymns. Lasting less than an hour. The Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be on display as well as the three little children. Following the prayers there was time for lots of friendly chat and in true Aubane fashion, the cup of tea and cake. Please get as many as possible to attend these Rosary meetings wherever they are held ,in the hope that the world will become a better place for all our sakes.
