“Where the Road Takes Me” on c103 This Sunday Evening at 7pm

This week on “Where the road takes me”, we conclude the two part programme on Bandon Community Hospital. ‘From Workhouse to Cottage Hospital to state of the art Community Hospital’, traces the history of this building since it began its days as a workhouse in 1841.

This week……………

Workhouse historian Peter Higginbotthom tells us how patients with mental health problems back then were admitted to a special unit for ‘Idiots’ and ‘lunatics’.

Liam Calnan, son of former Fianna Fail Senator Peter Calnan, remembers the days of the Cottage hospital, and when planning permission was withdrawn as quickly almost as it was granted.

Former nurses Ann Johnson and Maureen Mehigan remember the good and sad days at the hospital.

And…………….

Gerard Buckley who grew up in Ardan (Ardawn), recalls the benefits of having a hospital on the other side of your garden wall.

Join John Greene for Where the road takes me – this Sunday evening at 7 on C103.
