Eily’s Report – 17th January

This week we welcome the return of the annual Machinery Show.  It will be held all indoors at the Green Glens Arena.

Running for two days Wednesday and Thursday. With entries coming from all parts of the Country.

The  community is well returned back to normal following the Christmas break. Many of our voluntary bodies holding their AGMs in preparation for the year ahead.

Millstreet Community Council will hold their AGM at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday January 31st.

Town Park AGM, Fri. January 27th at the Canon O’Donovan Centre. Both meetings starting  at 8.

A very successful Table Quiz was held by the Coursing Club at Corkerys Bar on Friday night. The Community Council provided a team.  And a great night was had by all.

On Friday night next a Table Quiz will be held at the Bush Bar, organised by the Transition year Students of the CommunitySchool to raise funds to send two students, namely Ciara FitzGerald and Katie Crowley to India  with the Hope Foundation  in March. Please give them your best support.

Well done to our Transition Students who represented the Community School at the Young Scientists Exhibition which was held at the RDS last week. And were lauded for presenting the five most interesting projects. They were part sponsored by the Community Council.

Sean Radley will be the MC at a Gala Concert in aid of A Song for Bridget Fund  to be held at Ballinhassig on Saturday night next January 21st. Bridget is a little African Girl who needs a very important  very costly Operation.

Millstreet Gramophone Circle Meeting Friday night January 20th at the Conon O Donovan Centre Starting at 8.15. Presenter Tony McDonald Rathmore. All Welcome.

Our community Council had their monthly meeting at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday night, and there was a long varied agenda. Further enhancement of the adult Gym at the Youth Centre  one of the main features.  With many new services for the facility on the cards, to meet modern day demands. Michelle Cronin and Chris Sheehan are in charge.  The number there is 087 448 32 66  if you like to ring for details. Astro Turf is kept extremely busy and general maintainance is important, as pointed out by Mary Collins.

The sales of the 2017 calendar was very pleasing ,and any sellers of same are asked to please return any outstanding cash and unsold copies to Marie Twomey as soon as possible. The proceeds  will go to the Pipe band and the Mens Shed.

The Chairman  Noel Buckley , thanked the public for their support of the recent annual Church Gate Collection which amounted to €1.050.  A member brought a request from someone to revive some of the features of old, such as the Tops of the Parish etc. and anybody who would like to comment can contact any Council member.

The Adult Learning Centre has reopened on the Main Street. Classes include:

Basic Computers,
Advanced Computers,
Word Processing,
English for beginners,
Advanced English,
English Reading and Writing,
Using Technology(smart phones and laptops), and
Skills for Work night classes for Farmers

Community Singers with Marie will resume this Thursday Night January 19th at 7.30 in the Parish Centre. New members always welcome. No experience is needed, just a love of singing along. The Group will sing at the Vigil Mass on Saturday night and they will sing at Kanturk Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Knitting Club open every Tuesday night from 7-9 at the adult Learning Centre. Again all are welcome.

Set Dancing in Ballydaly on Wednesday nights from  8.30 to 10.

This week also sees the resumption of the Eucharistic Adoration in Millstreet and Cullen Churches.  In Millstreet on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10.30 am to 10.30 pm. and in Cullen on Thursdays from 10am to7. New people always welcome to drop in for a few minutes or sign up for a given time each week. For details ring the Parish office at 02970043.

Confessions in Millstreet Church every Saturday from 12.30 to 1.

Here are the results of this weeks parish lotto draw which was held at the Bush Bar on Sunday night .

Numbers drawn were, 4,10,15,26 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Eimer Murphy, Kilcorney, the seller was O’Leays Butchers and they got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to Marie Angela O Donovan, West End. €20 each Ml. Lucey c/o Patsy Mac. Michelle Murphy, Millstreet. Mairead O Callaghan. Main St, Thomas Walsh, Lackabawn. Denny Lane Drishane Rd. , Jerry ORiordan, Ballinatona, Chris Hickey, Mount Leader. John O Callaghan, Kilcorney. Jackpot for next week €8,200 the draw at Corkerys Bar on Sunday night.

A note from the Canon O Donovan Centre thanking all those who continued to support them during their renovation period.There are now places available for meals ,nursing care, and activities at the Centre. Transport can be provided. For more details ring 029 70926.

45 Drive in aid of the centre is held every Tuesday night at the Centre. give it your best support.

 

It is most gratifying to meet people from far away places when they come home ,to hear of the great pleasure they get from our Millstreet website. Please support it in every way,

It is treasured all over the world and keeps us all close in spirit.

The Weigh In continued in Cullen on Monday night. This week 74 weighedIn and 167 pounds weight was lost.

And  Jiving lessons are part of their Monday nights program.

 

Our Town Park is open  for all those who like to take a walk, be it long or short and the outdoor exercise machines are very popular , one walker I met who uses most of them , takes along a little cloth  to dry  the seats in case they are wet.

IRD Duhallow have issued a booklet gives information on the many coarses and activities  that are available. Please give them a ring ,they may have something that suits you. Above all do not feel left out or alone. Maybe there is some body out there who needs you.
