Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to my weekly report.
My apologies for not being with you last week. I was among some members of our Community Singers who joined up with our counterparts from Castlemagner who went on a four day trip to Donegal. Staying at Brian McNiffs great Northern Hotel in Bundoren, where we received the royal treatment during our stay.
We were bussed around the county to famous places like the Glen of Colm Cille and The Glenties and lots lots more. And following a grand evening dinner, we danced the nights away . In a true Active Retired Peoples style.
Returning to Millstreet soon made us forget any regrets that we may have had about the trip being over. Millstreet is a truly remarkable place . You feel the buzz right away,In the few days while we were away, there was the news that our Tidy Towns Committee had gained 6 points in the National finals plus a bronze medal. Add this to their all out success in the County Council Anti Litter Campain.
Then there was the great news that Jerry Pat and all at O Leary Family Butchers had scooped a further Gold at the Blas na hEireann finals with their Mushera Venisen Burgers.
Our Super Valu Store has received a whole new facelift with notices up to say that Chef Supreme Kevin Dundun is due there this Thursday October 7th, from 3-5pm to give an in store demonstration of his cooking expertise.
Next day Friday October 8th. All are invited there for a family fun day, face painting for the little ones plus food tasting for all , and great prizes to be won.
Even our little Grotto on the Macroom Rd. got a face lift in spite of the weather.
This week we have to bid goodbye to two very special ladies. To Breda Buckley, ( O Leary) who has been our wonderful librarian for the past 36 years.and is now going to retire. On Friday evening last a large number of well wishers, including representatives of the Community Council came to wish her well and bring some parting gifts.
This week also it was with great regret that we learned that Patricia (Trish) Moynihan will not be renewing her contract at our local post office. For the past 18 years we have enjoyed and relished the service and courticy of this vital facility in our town from Trish and her faithful staff. But the good news is that our Post Office is NOT about to close. And a replacement will be appointed in the coming months.
Listen to Eily:
No words of mine can do justice to the debt that we owe to both Breda at the Library and Trish at the Post Office. To say thank you seems so lacking and limp. I can only hope that they will have lots of happy memories and a wonderful sence of achievement on two jobs well done. God Bless You both.
Still with our postal service, you may be interested to know that the sorting office has been taken out of Millstreet and moved to Boherbue. Which means that our postmen must go to Boherbue every morning from now on, using their own cars, to sort our post.
Program 279 of LTV2 in on line this week and can be viewed on YouTube at any time. and Cork Music Station with Sean Radley every Tuesday night, also online.
And a continued well done to Sean, and all involved for our wonderful website, which is renewed every day.
