The weather over the weekend did little to pave the way for some of our ourdoor events. But there were many events planned which went ahead regardless. The O Keeffe Clan Gathering drew great crowds as did the O’Leary Clan gathering.
Some of the visitors took time out from the planned program to visit our local assets. And our parish Church came in for special mention. It’s beautiful stain glass windows, including no less than two by Harry Clarke. But rather surprisingly the statue of St.Bridget came in for special mention, the visitor saying how thrilled and indeed surprised , he was, to see that one still survives in a church.
And still with visitors ,the people who were here for the Mounted Games earlier this year are still sending messages of thanks to the people of Millstreet for the wonderful reception that they gave them when they came here from 30 countries from all parts of the world to compete at the Green Glens. Their Parade through the town can be seen on our website, and seeing it again brings back so many happy and proud memories.
This is Suicide Awareness week and it is very important that everybody should engage in a happy approach to their everyday lives. Many classes and hobbies are starting up now again in the run-up to the shorter days and longer evenings. The list of things to join is long and varied, and there is something for everyone.
On Monday night our Active Retired Group held their registration meeting and over 80 people signed in ,some for the first time. There was a draw for an over night stay in a nice hotel and it was won by Mary Hickey, from Cullen.
So Congratulations to Mary.
The knitting Club resumes at the Adult Learning Centre in our Main Street. Its held every Tuesday night from 7 -9 and all are welcome.
Contact IRD Duhallow for their booklet giving details of all the Coarses and classes that they have planned for the months ahead.
The Community Singers will resume at the end of this month, and there is always room for new members both men and women.
Our Parish Choir has Practice at 8, every Wednesday night at the Parish Centre and new Members welcome.
The Community Council meetings resume at 9 oclock Tonight (Tuesday) at 9pm, after the Summer break tomorrow night.
All members please attend.
Carriganima fun run/walk on Saturday next September 17th. Proceeds will go to Macroom and Millstreet Hospitals.
Carriganima Vintage Tractor Run on Sunday September 18th Registration at the Pub at 12noon. The run will be followed by a BBQ and entertainment and its all in aid of their local bus service C.A.R.T.
Our Pipe Band will hold their annual Church Gate Collection this weekend Sept .17/18. Please support them well.
The last dance of the season will be held at the Platform in Mushera on Sunday next September 18th from 3- 5.30.
