Eily’s Report – 9th Aug. 2016

Dia is Muire díobh go léir a chairde and welcome to my weekly report .

It’s Showtime here again here this week for the Millstreet International Horse Show which will run from today Tuesday August 9th to Sunday 14th. All the signs which lined the approach roads to town for the past two World Events have been left in place as we once again welcome the cream of the world’s Bloodstock to the World Class Green Glens arena. It is no surprise now to see the mighty Horse Wagons thunder into town. It all kicks off today and comes to a mighty climax on Sunday with the customery Grand Prix. Please come and see this wonderful spectacle. All services , such as restaurant ,local car parking, toilet facilities etc. will be available.

Admission is free and because of that people can drop in and out at any time.

Once more I want to wish the Duggan Family and their staff every success and God’s Blessing for the Show.

Next up will be the Millstreet/Drishane Castle International Horse Trials on Aug. 24-28.

I’d like to extend a fond Céad Míle Fáilte to all those who are visiting us at the moment and hope they enjoy their stay.

The people who were here for the Big show last week were full of praise for our town and its people . Our butcher Shops came in for special mention. They were amazed that we have shops in Ireland that sold meat only.

Welcome to the Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.

Many of the fruits of the Earth have already come to their expiry date while others are on the brink. Be on the look out for the ones that can be preserved and put away for the long months of Winter. Look up the many cookery books especially the lovely one issued by IRD Duhallow and they will give you all the help you need to preserve the many fruits that are growing free.

Still with IRD Duhallow I’d like to compliment them on the great work being done by their workers in cleaning up the many walking routes in the area. Very important now that Autumn is here it’s the time that many people like to traverse our lovely countryside. We have many notice boards in the town pointing out the wide range of lovely places to see in the area.

And the Community Council have placed two defibrilators for public use. One at the door of the Youth Centre and the other at the door of the Garda Barracks.

Still with our Community Council. They have erected some lovely permanent Welcome to Millstreet signs on our approach roads to the town.

Our lovely CountryPark will host Summer Camp for Children this week. Give them a ring to find out the details of their various events. Contact 029 70810 or look up their website.

The Text alert system is working very well in the area with the many warnings putting people in the know of any suspect happenings around the place.

On behalf of our community I’d like to welcome to Fr. Billy Radley back to his native Millstreet and wish him many years of happy retirement.

Every Good wish to all the Singletons who are enjoying a huge family reunion this week with relatives coming from many lands to be part of it. .On this Friday evening the 7.30 Mass in our church will be said in memory of the late Jerry & Sheila.
