The Wheel of Millstreet is moving big time again this week with the arrival of no less that 30 European Countries descending on the World Class, Green Glens Arena, for the FEI European Jumping Championships for Young Riders, Juniors and Children on Horses –  some as young as 13.

Since last Friday the mega horse carriers have been thundering into town. And along with them the throngs of people who have made long journeys across Europe to get here. Some came by car and Ferry, others by plane.  And to-night (Tuesday July 26 ) there will get a rousing Millstreet Welcome for them when they march through  Millstreet town – starting from the Fair Field Car Park at 6.30pm.

Each team will carry its own National flag.  Our wonderful Pipe Band will be are at the ready to play them in. Then all are welcome to accompany them to the Green Glens for the official opening ,which will be followed by a free concert given by the World Renowned Liam O’ Connor.

Meanwhile down at the Green Glens the place has to be seen to be believed .The Showjumping arenas are a blaze of colour. All tempory seating is covered in from the weather and each group of   Stables   are adorned to with national flag of the team within. Huge planters of flowers and shrubs  adding to the scene.

The visitors from abroad are in awe of the venue saying it’s the finest they’ve ever seen.

On behalf of our community I want to wish the Duggan family and indeed the Town of Millstreet,every success ,and God’s Blessing in the week ahead.

The next Major event to be held at the Green Glens will be the Annual Horse Show,Aug 9-14.

A garden Fete will be held in Drishane on August 20.

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at Tarrant’s Bar on Sunday night.

Numbers drawn were 8, 19, 25,26 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Mgt.Murphy, Pound Hill, The seller was the GAA and they got €50 sellers prize. €50 went to The Hartigan Family, Lackabawn, €20 each went to David Kelleher,Liscahane, The Healy Family,Murphy’s Tce., Stephen c/o Mgt Burke, Kate Dennehy, Dromagh, Dan Crowley, Minor Row, Eileen Egan, Liscarroll,   Eugene O’Callaghan,Drishane View, Juliann Kelleher, Tooreenbawn. Jackpot for next week €3,800 the draw at the Bush Bar on Sunday night.

A memorial was unveiled to the late Pádraig hIcheadha in Cullen on Saturday night.

And the Cullen & District Special Needs Association held their very successful their annual Vintage Day on Sunday. It was also the Feast of their local Patron St. Laitiaran.

Jack Lane will unveil a memorial to the renowned freedom fighter -the Bard – at the Kerryman’s Table on Sun.August 14th.

The August issue of Duhallow Today will be in the shops any day now. Pick up your free copy and keep in touch with all that is happening around the County.

Ballinagree Vintage Day will be held on August 7th with all the usual attractions. Please give them your best support.

There’s a notice from John Joe Herlihy to say that a charity Dance will be held at the Edel Quinn Hall , Kanturk on Friday night August 12th with a wide array of bands providing the music. Proceeds in aid of Kanturk & Millstreet Hospitals.

Admission €10.

The AGM of IRD Duhallow will be held to-morrow Wednesday night July 27th at the James O Keeffe Institute Starting at 8pm.

Tralee Diabetis Support Group will hold their meeting in the Rose of Tralee Hotel on tomorrow Wednesday July 28th and all are welcome.

Conference for young adults between the ages of 18-40 will take place at All Hallows Dublin on August 20/21 .The Legion of Mary will sponsor two people .

Eucharistic Adoration will end earlier than usual in Millstreet Church because to the international parade through the town this Tuesday evening.  It will run from 10.30 again tomorrow.

And in Cullen from 10am to 7 in Cullen on Thursday.

Confessions in Millstreet every Sat. from 12.30 to 1.
