Dia is Muire diobh go léir a Cairde and welcome to my Report`from Millstreet..From July 12 to 17 inclusive the World Team Mounted Games Championships will be held at the Green Glens. It’s a first and it is exciting. 18 Countries will be taking part.and they are Ireland, Northern Ireland, France. Belgium, South Africa, Norway, Germany, Scotland, England, Wales, Italy, New Zealand, Australia, & Canada. The Final is held in a different country every year and last year it was held in Kentucky. A hundred and fifty ponies in all are coming, comprising of 30 teams at 5 ponies a team .

The chairman of the Championships Mr. Conor O Leary attended the monthly meeting of the Community Council on Tuesday night last and he gave a detailed account of the event of how our community can play a big part in welcoming such a prestigious event to our town.

The next meeting will be held on this Thursday night at 9pm and all are welcome to attend.

Still with the Green Glens, the FEI European Championships for Young Riders, Juniors & Children on Horses will be held from July 26 to 30th.

The month is moving on fast ,we have passed longest day of the year. That means that every day from now on will be a little shorter than the one before it. Already many of our flowers and plants have done their duty for another season. By way of growing and coming to maturity and going to seed. Now is the time to look up the IRD Duhallow book which tells of the many ways that we can preserve the fruits of the earth ,to be enjoyed during the long winter months.

On Saturday morning last our popular Fr. Paddy O Byrne said   Mass at his beloved Tubrid Well to celebrate his Ordination to the Priesthood which took place on 1960. We offer him our sincere congratulations and wish him many more years of health and happiness.

Our very best wishes go out this week also to Sr. Mary Moynihan who is home from her convent in Australia.

Those of us were in her class at the presentation Convent can still recall the day when she left the school yard at the tender age of 16   to become a nun in Australia, and it was many many years before she came home for a holiday. Patricia Ryan who was one year older also went on the same day.

We hope that Mary will enjoy her stay and meet many of the friends that she knew back in the 40s.

The weather was a bit of a spoil sport for many of the outdoor events at the weekend but did nothing to dampen the spirits of all the Dads who were lauded on Fathers Day .

Exams are winding down to a close and Summer holidays are looming fast. To celebrate the closing of our National Schools on Friday Herlihy’s Centra Store at the West End are treating all the little ones to free Icecream cones and free tea/coffees for the Moms. Free entertainment from 12 to 1.30 . Don’t miss it.

I have a note from the Burke Family to say many thanks to all those who supported their recent church gate collection in aid of Courtmacherry Life Boats which amounted to €1,575.00.

Millstreet Junenile GAA Club will hold their church gate collection on this weekend June 25/26 .
