The Annual Self-Build Exhibition was a great success in the comfort of   the Green Glens  over the weekend. The increased attendance showing  an improvement in the economy, and faith in the future by the public.

The next event at the Green Glens will be the Annual Machinery Show in January 2016.

The long awaited bridge over the Blackwater at Dooneen met with a blip yesterday Monday when strong winds prevented the 360 ton crane from placing the concrete slabs from being placed on the prepared base. There are three slabs in all each measuring 26 meters in length. From now on the answer is blowing in the wind and as soon as it dies down the mammoth task will be resumed, Le Cúnamh Dé.

Here are the results of this weeks parish Lotto Draw which was held at Tarrants Bar on Sunday Night.

Numbers drawn were 3, 14, 16, 30 .and the jackpot was not won.

The AGM of the Community Council will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday November 17th at 8pm. All are welcome. New members very welcome.

 

Still with the Community Council. They are now in the process of setting up  the Community Text Alert system in the Area, in conjunction with the Garda Siochana. And they are urging everybody to join, both in the interest of their own safety and that of the entire community.   They are asking everybody to pass the word to those who do not have on-line and may not be aware that Community Text Alert is being set up in our area. It costs just €10 to become a member, and a public meeting will be held in the near future to finalise the setting up of the system.

The wet ‘n windy weather took it’s toll on the blessing of the Graves over the weekend. At Masses Canon John FitzGerald advised people not to worry if they could not be present during the blessing or placing of candles because of the inclement weather. And his words brought great consolation to many.

 

The Statue of Our Lady of Fatima was Blessed at the 11.30 Mass here on Sunday and the local branch of the Legion of Mary want people to know that they are welcome to have this special Statue in their own home for a week. Contact the Parish Office.

 

Many Congratulations to Mick Mullane and Cormac Dineen at our Railway Station on being presented with the Best Railway In Munster Award recently. Our Railway is no stranger to awards, in the past they have swept the All Ireland more than once. Well done to their hard work and dedication in keeping this important feature of our town in such prime condition.

 

The work continues on the placing of the new footpaths in our town’s Main Street. And they have come in for some very favourable comments from the public . Well done to all those who campained for so long to get them done.

 

All roads lead to McCarthy’s Bar this Friday night where the popular  Keane sisters, Anne and Ruben  will launch their lovely CD. Well known for their sweet harmony and relaxing airs, this CD will make the ideal Christmas Gift. Many of their friends from the music circles will attend  on Friday night, so please be there for a pleasant and enjoyable event.

 

And another must-buy Christmas gift will soon be in the shops. The Annual Millstreet 2016 Calendar is  about ready to be circulated. So watch out for it.

 

The Kilcorney Development Group will host a Gala Table Quiz at Moll Carthys Bridge, on Friday night Nov.13th.

 

On November 17th O Leary’s Family Butchers will host a Cookery Demo at theGAA Hall , given by the popular TV3 Chef Adrain. Admission is €10 and its being run in conjunction with the Transition year students of the CommunitySchool, in aid of our Local CommunityHospital.

On fine days there is nothing nicer than a walk in our Town Park and use any of the wonderful exercise machines along the way if you feel like it.

 

Our Adult gym is open at the Youth Complex, it is newly refurbished and there are plans for more improvements.

Since we no longer have local radio weekly service or Clara News, those who are not computer literate are losing out on lots of the things they’d like or should know, so we would appeal to all those who have on line to please pass on the word.
