Seán Radley deputising for Eily Buckley

28th July 2015

Greetings, dear Listeners, from Millstreet as we share Regional Report No. 1276 on Tuesday 28th July 2015.

Let’s begin with the results of the Local Lotto where one of the prizes has made its way to beautiful Co.Wicklow!

The Draw took place at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Sunday night.   Winning numbers :  9, 24, 26, 27.  The Jackpot of €2,000.00 was not won.

€100.00 went to Chrissie O’Sullivan of Dromtariffe while the seller – the Wallis Arms – got €50.00.

€50.00 went to Mary Lane, Drishane Road.

And €20.00 to each of the following:

Bina O’Mahony, Knocknagree;  Ann & Ben O’Sullivan, Lisnaboy;  Dan & Theresa Collins, Drishane Road;  Tríona Murray, Clondrohid;  Éamonn Guerin, Lombardstown c/o Tarrant’s Bridge Bar;  Mary Gleeson (nee O’Leary, formerly of Minor Row, Millstreet), Co.Wicklow; Eileen Healy, Claraghatlea;  Darren Kiely of Liscahane.  Sincere congratulations to all the winners.

We discover how 1840 is linked to 1927 at Millstreet Museum due to Dan’s creativity.   Yes, the superbly creative and craftsman supreme Dan Duggan of West End, Millstreet has recently created a truly magnificent frame made of original pitch pine wood which he accessed voluntarily  from an 1840 church seat from Millstreet’s original 1840 Church. The splendid wooden frame has now totally enhanced our 1927 Monument Plaque which had been unveiled by the famous Austin Stack.   Look out for our special www.millstreet.ie feature on this recent uplifting installation.

Pádraig Pearse’s historic visit to Millstreet in 1915 is to be commemorated on 22nd August.  This will take place at Corkery’s Bar in West End where he had refreshments following an historic speech at Station Road in the field presently being used by Aubane’s St. John’s Club.  Hard working Jerry Lehane and a truly dedicated Committee are presently making final preparations for the historic event.   Jerry’s Easter address at the National Monument received much richly deserved praise.  In his speech he provided an excellent insight into Pádraig Pearse’s Millstreet visit a century ago.

Superb atmosphere at Cullen’s Annual Vintage and Threshing Event on Sunday despite the liquid sunshine!   A full feature on the great annual event organised by the Cullen & District Special Needs Association will shortly appear on the Millstreet website.   The Dog Show was much enjoyed as was the splendid range of vintage cars and tractors.  And the musical entertainment was marvellous with “Natural Gas” and Tim O’Riordan.

A wonderfully colourful balloon release at the wedding of Georgina Stanley of Millstreet & Mark O’Callaghan of Rosscarbery was to our knowledge a first for Millstreet on the grounds of St. Patrick’s Church on Saturday, 25th July.   Every happiness to the Happy Couple.

IRD Duhallow will hold its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 29th July 2015 at 8pm at the James O’Keeffe Institute, Newmarket.  Upcoming Seminars at IRD Duhallow in September focus on Diabetes Information and also on a Financial Wellness Programme.

The very generous contribution of €1,776.06 at this past weekend’s church gate collection for the Irish Cancer Society upheld the very impressive local support accorded consistently to this important praiseworthy cause.

Next weekend it’s Millstreet Tidy Town’s church gate collection while on the following week (8th/9th August) there will be an opportunity to support Millstreet Museum & Tourist Information Centre combined with support for our Millstreet Community Website.   All practical help is greatly appreciated.

Preparations continue for the spectacular annual Horse Show in August.  Green Glens and Drishane will be centres of splendid equestrian activities.   Do check out the Green Glens website for constant updates.

LTV2 presents a weekly programme on the Millstreet website – recent focus has been on country-and-western and Irish music themes.  A special interview with Catríona of “Love me when I’m old” fame features on our next programme.  And the outstanding accordion playing of Michael Buckley of Upton will be included in an upcoming programme.

Appearing at only one Irish venue the superbly talented Johnny Bremner from beautiful Scotland will be performing at The Pub in Carriganima on Saturday night, 8th July.  A marvellous group of people from the Dungarvan area are likely to be attending the presentation in Carriganima following a guided tour of Millstreet earlier that day.

The outdoor gym units recently introduced to Millstreet Town Park are proving hugely popular as is the 0.47mile walkway surrounding the exquisite Town Park setting where the recent GAA coordinated “Cúl Camp 2015” was an outstanding success.

Finally, our thought for reflection:  “Friendship is like money – easier made than kept!”

For c103 in Millstreet this is Seán Radley deputising for Eily Buckley who will be back next week.  Go gcumhdaí Dé sibh. (May the Good Lord protect you all).
