Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to news report 1275 from Millstreet.  Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this calm morning following a wet night.

An important Community Council Meeting will b e held at the Wallis Arms to-night starting at 9.  All members please attend. The Community Council are at the moment engaged in upgrading the Youth Centre especially the Adult Gym there. Ambitious plans are in the pipeline and to-nights meeting will be mainly about this welcome development.

Another welcome development will be the placing of the bridge over the Blackwater at Dooneen. Many years of negotiations have gone into this project, and local lobbying  playing a big part.

The contract for the Bridge is gone out to tender, and  the crossing of the Blackwater at this point, marks one of the last pieces of the jig-saw on the mighty Bearra/Brefni Way

Local land owners on both sides of the river at this point, namely Michael and Marian O Sullivan and Francis and Eileen O Riordan  have to be lauded for allowing their land to be used for this important development.

Ever since our local magazine Clara News closed down, people from far and wide have grieved over it’s demise. For almost 40 years the simple little publication kept our people from all parts of the world connected.

Is there any chance that it can be revived, with new people and new modern methods? A local publication is a very vital asset to any community. And since our weekly news on radio has been reduced to “on line” our people feel totally cut off.  We have countless committees and voluntary bodies in our area and I would like to appeal to them to get together and give Clara News or a Mag. by any other name, back to the people.

The Millstreet Parish Report came out at the weekend and copies can be got in the church. It makes very interesting reading and Fr. John says that he appreciates the ongoing support of the people and wishes them God’s Blessing in the future. As a matter of interest we had 39 Baptisms, 47 funerals, 18 marriages and 45 First Communions in 2014.
