Cork County Library is eager to support the work done in schools during the year to encourage reading and develop reading skills. We feel it is important that children maintain these skills through the summer and develop further their love of reading.

To this end, Cork County Library will offer through its branch and mobile library network a Summer Reading programme for children: Sweet Treats for your imagination.  The following is a brief outline of the Sweet Treats programme.

Children are encouraged to visit their libraries to select , reading treats to indulge their imaginations.

Libraries in County Cork offer a great selection of picture books, children’s stories, and teenage reading. All libraries can satisfy a wide range of tastes in reading and of course all ages and levels of reading are catered for .

From July 1st Children are encouraged to start the challenge. When they return their books to the library, they fill the sweet jar at the library with titles of books they have read. They will be in with a chance to win a special prize sponsored by O’ Mahony’s Booksellers, at the end of the summer. Participating in this challenge will help children develop a life-long love of reading as well as improving their reading skills. The challenge will run throughout the school holidays.
