Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1209 from Millstreet  Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this crisp and bright sunny morning.

Plans are well in place for our annual St. Patrick’s Day Parades which will be held in Carriganima on Sunday next March 16th and in Millstreet town on the Feast of our Patron Saint Monday March 17th  which is a Holy Day of Obligation. Our people are already decorating the places, parades will start in Carriganima  at 3pm on Sunday and at 5pm in Millstreet on Monday. There is a wide range of categories and prizes galore for the best in each. Free face painting, and street entertainment. And lots more not least among them our own Pipe Band.

There’s a Community Council Meeting at the Wallis Arms Hotel to finalise

plans for the Parade. Starts at 9.

Many congratulations to St John’s Club on winning the County Final of

Scor in the Ballad Session.  And progress to the Munster  final  which will

be held  in the near future.

John O Sullivan was runner-up in the Story Telling Section.

Millstreet Macra are hosting the regional round of the

National Talent Competition.  It’s a great nights entertainment , with many

categories in which you can see the regions talent shine.

It all takes place in the G.A.A. Hall this Friday the  14th of March at 8

pm.  Admission €5 .  Please support them well.

IRD Duhallow will hold an information seminar entitled

 €Steps for Everyday Living on Wednesday 19th March @ 7.30pm in the

James O’Keeffe Institute, Newmarket.

Guest Speakers on the night are Wellness Coach and Personal Development

expert, Margaret O’Connor and David Holden, the Cork Regional President

of St Vincent De Paul.

This event will provide helpful tips for dealing with the stresses and

challenges that individuals and families encounter every day, and will

outline the different supports available. With peer pressure a real issue

amongst teenagers, parents and teenagers are dealing with very challenging

issues.

Admission is free and light refreshments will be served. To register,

The Boherbue & Kiskeam Friends of Cancer Care  Unit, will host a

fundraising Concert by the Duhallow Choral Society at the Church in

Boherbue  on April 13th.Tickets at €10 are  on sale over a wide area.

Banteer Bingo to-night €8,000 in prizes.

A note here about Cullen Pipe Band , to say that they had tremendous success

at the Munster Solo Contest which was held in Newcastlewest on Sunday March 2nd.

Ciara O Connor brought home the Munster Title plus a Perpetual  Cup. For

her outstanding performance in  U14 piping .

Others who enjoyed success were beginners Gearoid and Muireann Mulvihill and

Michael Mc Sweeney, Highly Commended.

Susan Cahill 2nd  Michael Doyle, 3rd in u14 as did Collette O Connor, Well

done all round.

The Band will play after Mass in their native Cullen on Sunday March 16th

and have  their annual flower & cake sale and Colouring Competition in the

Community Hall. Before travelling to Rathmore to give a recital.

Then on Monday they will play at St Patrick’s day parades in Killarney,

Macroom and Millstreet.

They deserve our great praise and admiration.

The organisers of the Church Gate collection in aid of Cope  which was

taken up  in Cullen, Ballydaly and Millstreet, would like to thank all those

who gave so generously, It amounted to €1885

Under the heading of the Legion of Mary, it says that all are invited to an

Information meeting to-night, Tuesday March 11th at the Sacristy in our

Church with the view of starting a branch in Millstreet . Please attend.

As it is Lent the Stations of the Cross will be said at the 7.30 Mass on

Friday evening.

Well done to the Students of our Community School and their Chaplin John

Magee, who held a Sleep-Over in the Church Grounds   to raise funds for

Trocaire.

 GAA

Millsteet play Kilbrin in the Ducon Cup on Friday in Millstreet at 8pm

and on Sunday, Millstreet  are home to Banteer in the Junior A Hurling

League at 1pm.

Still with the GAA their exciting

“Who wants to be a 1000-aire”  will be held at the GAA Hall on Friday

March 21st. starting at 8.

Tickets are on sale from any member and from many Stores.

Please take note that the AGM of the lotto Committee which was planned for this Friday night March 14th has been deferred due to unforeseen circumstances.

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the

Wallis arms Hotel on Sunday night.

Numbers drawn were 10,11, 27, 29 and the Jackpot was not won.

€100 went to David Buich, Station Rd. The seller was Mairead Daly and

She  €50 sellers prize. €50 went to Eileen Egan, Liscarroll , €20

each the Kevin O Connor, Rathrue. Gobnait McSweeney, Carriginma, Katty O Keeffe, Dooneen, Gerard O Sullivan, Liscahane, Eva Sheehan, Liscahane, Anna Mae Daly, The bridge. Eileen Roche, Coomligane, and Tim O Donovan Mill Lane.

Jackpot for next week €8,600 the Draw again at the Wallis Arms Hotel on

Sunday night.
