And welcome also to the New Year 2014. I hope you had a great Christmas and are in the better of it.
The weather did act as a bit of a spoil sport, but it didn’t stop a lot of enjoyable functions going ahead just the same.
Our Church services were a joy with our lovely Church warm and bright for the capacity crowds that attended. And the Parish Choir singing the beautiful Christmas hymns that have been sung since the very first Christmas, and the Birth of Our Lord.
There was a marked increase in the numbers of our young people home from Australia and other places. And the folks at home hung on to their every word as they gave their account of what life is like away from home.
And it was gratifying to hear that most of them intend to return when they have sown their wild oats and when things improve here. We pray it won’t be long.
To go back to the weather, those who climbed Mushera Mountain on Christmas Day, were blessed with a break in the high winds and lashing rain and scaled our highest Mountain in brilliant sunshine. The New Year Dip in the Black Water was not so lucky. It had to be deferred to Sunday last, when the flooded river left no one in any doubt, but that it had to be put back again.
But our Christmas Season wasn’t without its successes. And I’d like to congratulate our brilliant under 16 camogie team who won the county championship final in Cork city. Well done to them and all associated with them.
Bad weather did not deter 180 of our ladies of all ages from celebrating the Womens little Christmas at the Wallis Arms hotel on Friday night last. The function hall was packed for the beautiful meal which was followed until late with dancing to the popular Kelt.Dancing was by no means left to the young, as the members of active retired groups strutted their stuff in the “slosh“, Line dancing and other graceful moves that I have no name for, but they looked great.
Many thanks to Mairead Daly and her helpers who have organised this lovely event for the past four years.
A note here to say that the AGM of the Town Park planned for Friday night January 10th has been deferred to another date yet to be decided.
Our 2014 Millstreet Calendar is on sale at many outlets. And as well as giving the days, weeks and months, it also contains a lot of useful information and emergency phone numbers.Proceeds will go the Astro Turf Fund.

Life is slowly returning to normal after the Christmas break and the adverse weather is not making it easy. Our emigrants leaving from airports had to contend with blustery take-offs while worried families waited for word that they had arrived safely.
All schools re-open today and extra care must be taken by road users,to be on the look out for people rushing in the wind and rain, to cross roads, boarding buses and cars and so on.
Our weekly lotto returns on Sunday night next, January 12th.

Millstreet hosts the Munster Scor na nOg semi final on Sunday in Millstreet GAA Community Hall at 2.30pm with teams from Cork. Kerry and Limerick involved.
Our GAA Club are having a used clothes collection at the Hall on Monday next January 20th. from 10 until 2.
Weekly Adoration of the Blessed Sacrement resumes in our Church, on Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 10.30 am to 10.30 pm . People wishing to sign on for a particular hour can contact the Parish office at 02970043.
There is a host of new events coming up at the Green Glens over the coming months,but that’s another story for another day.
