Fr. Ray Browne from Athlone and the Diocese of Elphin will be ordained Bishop of Kerry Diocese this Sunday at 3.00p.m., in St. Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney.  You can listen to the ceremony live on Radio Kerry from 3.00p.m.  You can view the ceremony live on dioceseofkerry.ie.  The Cathedral will be filled to capacity with 1,300 guests, representing parishes, the two dioceses and Fr. Ray’s family.  The ordaining bishops will include:  Archbishop Dermot Clifford assisted by the Papal Nuncio Charles Browne and by Bishop Bill Murphy.  Fr. Ray’s motto as bishop is Love One Another.  This forms part of the new bishop’s crest.  The Ordination Booklet which includes all the details of the liturgy can be viewed on dioceseofkerry.ie.

INTRODUCTION FROM FR. RAY BROWNE

My name is Fr. Ray Browne.  I was ordained a priest for Elphin Diocese of 1982.  Elphin is a village in mid Co. Roscommon and the diocese consists of most of County Roscommon and a heavily populated area around Sligo town, the Cathedral location.  I come from the small part of the diocese that is in Co. Westmeath, part of Athlone town.  I have three sisters and three brothers.  Of my thirty one years as a priest, I spent thirteen in Galway city doing Canon Law work, the rest I have spent as a school chaplain and in parish work.  I have cherished connections to Munster, having studied science in UCC, and my mother’s native place was the Galtee mountains and the Glen of Aherlow on the Tipperary-Limerick border.  The parish I am leaving runs along the Shannon at Ballyleague, Roscommon, and the waters that flow from it run out to the ocean by the northerly tip of Kerry diocese.  I look forward to building my relationship with you the people of the Kerry diocese and I ask you all to pray for me and to pray for the Church in dioceses, Kerry & Elphin.

LOVE ONE ANOTHER

Where true love is dwelling, God is dwelling there;

Love’s own loving Presence love does ever share.

Love of Christ has made us out of many one;

In our midst is dwelling God’s eternal Son.

Give him joyful welcome, love him and revere;

Cherish one another with a love sincere.
