Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this wet Tuesday morning .

For a start this morning I want to offer sincere congratulations from our community to Mary & Bob Keane, Coolikerane and their family on winning €500,000 in the Euro millions at our Super Valu Store last week.

And we wish them Happy Days Ahead as a result.

It’s a case of all hands on deck this week in Millstreet, as we prepare to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our hosting of the EuroVision Song Contest on 1993. On this Saturday night May 18th the mighty Green Glens will again resound to the beautiful singing of Niamh Cavanagh who made us all so proud 20years ago.

The program for the night will include many blasts from the past,a delicious buffet meal by the well-known Denis Doody and his Kingdom Caterers, there will be slide shows and lots more, and to bring the night to a close we’ll have Eddie O Gorman and Pacific Blues to play until the wee small hours. If you haven’t got your ticket then get it right away to avoid disappointment. A limited number were printed. There is an organisers meeting at the Wallis Arms to-night at 9 to calculate ticket sales etc.

Everybody is asked to play their part in making the town look its best for the occasion.Already the committee has made a start and we are confidant that when Saturday night comes the atmostphere will have reached mega heights in our town.

 

Previous to that on Friday night May 17th our Gathering Committee are hosting a Euro-Style Karaoke contest at the Wallis Arms Hotel.They are inviting people to write a suitable song for the occasion or just sing, DJ on the night is none than PJ Cogan. of C103 fame. Program starts at 8.

Take a trip down memory lane as we remember and celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Eurovision being held in Millstreet. Come along to see videos and photos taken on this night 20 years ago.

Meanwhile Our Tidy towns Committee are asking for your help again this Thursday night to continue the weekly Clean-up. Last week there was a wonderful turnout by the residents of Drishane, but we do want more locals to put their shoulder to the wheel.Meet in the Square at 7.30

Judging for the Cork County Anti litter Campain starts this week on the Town & TanyardWood areas. So please be vigilent and keep every place clean and litter free.

 

Last Friday night a highly successful Meet and Greet gathering was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel, in advance of the All Ireland SheepShearing Championships which will be held at the Green Glens on May 25/26. Organised by St.John’s GAA Club the two day event is expected to be both interesting and entertaining , with many trade stands , Wool-handling demos. Sheep Dog trials, Cookery Demos, Childrens Fun section. The event will draw people of the Sheep trade from all parts of the World, Australia, Canada to mention just a few.And its all happening at the Green Glens on May 25/26th

 

In conjunction with the show our young Macra Group are hosting a fun Shave or Dye fundraiser on the Saturday Night May 25th in aid of conquer cancer. They are asking for volunteers, so if you’d like to help,then give your name to any club member.

 

The LTV2 crew are making programs every week and transmitting them. So keep trying and you may be able to get them. As well as that the programs are available on line Courtesy of Bernard Crowley, and be seen all over the world. So tell your folks in far off places to log in to the Millstreet Website.

 

A note from the Glen Theatre to say that they have the wonderful Crystal Swing in Concert on next Saturday night ,starting at 8,30. The number there for information is 029 56239.

 

 

The Annual Cloghoula Pattern Day will be held on Sunday next May 19th Starting as early as 1.pm. Program includes Races, Football Blitz, Sports, Bouncing castle Cake Sale Magician Etc.

A great day out for all the Family.

 

The closing of the Living Scenes Term was held at the Community School on Monday ,It was very well attended and there was a fine show of ceramic art work which was the result of the combined efforts of students and retired adults who worked to-gether on them in the past number of months.

 

Be on the look out for Millstreet Schools on the popular RTEs Nationwide program on Monday evening next. May 20th.

 

 

Every good wish and God’s Blessing on the little Children who will receive their First Holy Communion in our Church next Saturday.We hope they get nice warm weather also.

 

Music in the Bar in Carriganima this Saturday night is by the popular Mike Coffee.

 

A note from Kilcorney to say that their Parent Toddler Group are opened ever Monday from 10am to 12 noon. Pre-School children and parents all welcome.
