Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this nice pleasant Tuesday morning the last day of April.

Following in the steps of the  Walking Festival the previous week,  the MonsterMac enjoyed fine weather  this past weekend, at the Millstreet Country Park. The cream of athletes both men and women from many parts of the country took on the mighty challenge that tested every fibre of their being. Once again heartiest congratulations goes to our own Brian Murphy, on winning the Munster Adventure Challenge over 64 kms.

Meanwhile in the town a vintage rally both for cars and tractors took off in crisp sunshine. Cars travelling a 60 mile run around North /Mid Cork and tractors took to the picturesque slopes of Kilcorney, as far as places like the Eagles Nest and so on. Refreshments were enjoyed at the Wallis Arms Hotel, Where the Vintage Club Draw was held.

First prize of €1,000 was won by Catherine O’Sullivan, Boherbue, and €100 each went to L. Daly, The Sheehan Family Rathcoole and Mary Murphy, Ballydaly.

Coming up this week at The Country Park from Thursday there will be a massive display of  the crafts and trades  of yesteryear. The restaurant will be up and running and it promises to be a very enjoyable and interesting  event.

There’s a note here to say that the Duhallow Regional IFA will hold a meeting in Dromtarriffe to-night starting at 9 and a member of Teagasc will attend.

A very important meeting of the 20th celebration of the EuroVision Committee will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel tomorrow Wednesday night starting at nine sharp. All interested parties please attend.

The Celebration will be held at the Green Glens on Friday May 18th. Tickets are on sale over a wide area and people who wish to sit together may book their table. Contact Margaret Bourke, Mairead Daly, Noel Buckley or indeed any member of the Community Council. Please book your tickets without delay.

The program on the night will include a wonderful buffet meal, slide show recalling the  preparations that went into the big night. Main attraction of course will be Niamh Kavanagh herself who will entertain us as only Niamh can, and Eddie O’Gorman with Pacific Blues will bring the night to a memorable conclusion. The hosting of the EuroVision Song Contest will always remain high on the list of outstanding achievements of the Millstreet Records and the organisers are asking the people of the town to please decorate their places in a style fitting to this occasion.

And don’t forget that on the night before the big celebration a Eurovision type Karaoke competition will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel that’s on May 17th.

St Johns GAA Club will host the All Ireland Sheepshearing Championships at the Green Glens on May 24/25th

And along with the event the Local Branch of Macra are holding a Shave Or Dye Fundraiser in aid of Conquer Cancer. They are asking for volunteers from the various bodies and Clubs to take part. Three volunteers have already come foreward from the Community Council They are Noel Buckley, Jerry O Mahony & Joseph Lawlor.

Now that we are into the Month of May, The Holy Rosary will be recited at the Grotto in Rathmore to-morrow night and on Monday to Friday nights throughout the month.

Mass will be said at the City in Shrone on Sunday May 5th at 2pm.

Millstreet’s Brian Murphy delivered an outstanding  performance to land the overall prize in the Monster MAC  adventure race hosted  in Millstreet Country Park on Saturday.
Conditions were tough over the Boggeragh circuit as  the diverse course offered up plenty of challenges for the 250 strong entry drawn from all over the country before Brian  swept aside all and sundry to take the spoils.

Millstreet landed a double win in the Ducon Cup on overcoming both Lyre and Boherbue,

This Friday, Millstreet are away to Newmarket at 7.30pm while on Bank Holiday Monday, Millstreet are home to Castlemagner in the Duhallow Junior A Hurling League with a 6.30pm start.

Before I finish I want to thank all those both family and friends who made my 80th birthday such a memorable occasion. Sacrifice of Mass will be said for all your intentions.
