Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to news report 1158 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this very frosty, but lovely sunny,Tuesday morning.

The monthly meeting of the Community Council will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel to-night starting at 9.     It’s a very important meeting so All members please attend.

Our Millstreet Diary is full to overflowing for this, the year of the Gathering.

Great crowds gathered in the town Square on Wednesday night last for the Launch of the Mighty Cork20 Car Rally which will be centred at the Green Glens on October 4, 5, & 6th.[photos]

Just this week it is made official that World Boxing Champion Katie Taylor will box here on May 3rd. [details]

A matter of days later EuroVision Star herself Niamh Kavanagh will be here to celebrate the 20th anniversary of of the great event being held here at our Green Glens Arena.

And all roads lead to the Wallis Arms hotel on this Friday night March 15th for the Launch of our Summer Gathering  Festival which will run from July 4 -7th. [poster]

The Launch will be a glittering event with TV personalities Alan Shortt and Matt Cooper coming to set the mood.  Complimentary wine and refreshments  will be served, and a great social evening guaranteed.

That’s all happening at our Wallis Arms Hotel this Friday, March 15th, kicking off at 9.

Our annual St Patrick’s Day Parade will be held at 5pm on Sunday evening March 17th. And it promises many new features and pleasant surprises on this Gathering year.

Everybody’s welcome to take part. Please assemble at the Tanyard  any time after four ‘o clock.

We will have bands and banners, novelty items and loads of  colour &music. The reviewing stand will be in the Town Square and it all promises to be a great event.

Meanwhile out in Carriganima on St. Patrick’s weekend, they will have Music in the Bar on Saturday night, by the one and only Back on Track. And their 3rd annual St. Patricks Day Parade goes  ahead on Bank Holiday Monday at 3pm. Led by Millstreet piper Band. All Floats  and novelties etc. welcome. Later on they will have music by the ever popular Jerry McCarthy and his Band.   

The World Wide Welcome multi-cultural  event which was held at the Community School last night was a wonderful success. Guest speaker for Trocaire was a Peruvian lady named Patty Abozaglo, and over ten nationalities were present. As well as the Nationwide Camera Crew from RTE. So look out for it in a future program.

Bingo in Banteer tonight with €7,150 up for grabs.

Church Gate Collection here this weekend will be in aid of Cope Foundation.

Aubane Social Club Annual Good Friday Table Quiz at Aubane Community Centre on Friday 29 March at 8.30 pm. Tables of 4 €40.00. Special Price for Students under 18. All are welcome.

Many congratulations to Scor  na Paisti on winning their way through to the final at the weekend..

 

Millstreet Juvenile GAA Club will hold a victory/medal presentation   event on Sunday 24th March in The Wallis Arms Hotel at 7pm. Finger food will be served. Tickets cost €5. All welcome.

 

The Parents Association of our National Schools will hold an Easter Disco in the GAA Hall on Friday March 22nd.

From 7-9. All National School pupils welcome.

 

First Confessions for little children about to get their first Holy Communion will be held in our Parish Church to-night from 7.

Scor
Well done to the Millstreet Ballad Group on qualifying for the Co. Scor na bPaistí Finals in Ovens. And Millstreet representatives enjoyed success at the Duhallow Scoraiocht Finals hosted in Dromtariffe last Friday night.
GAA
Millstreet incurred a defeat to Blackwater Gaels in the Duhallow U21 Football Championship.On St. Patrick’s Day, Millstreet are scheduled to play Castlemagner in the Duhallow Junior A Hurling League in Millstreet at 1pm.

 

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the Clara inn on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were,

4, 7, 19, 30 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went Stephen and Louise Lyons, Altamount. The seller was Credit union and they got €50 sellers prize, €50 went to John O Callaghan, Kilcorney, €20 each to Paddy O Riordan, Killowen, Patsy Mac, Mount Leader,  Margaret Kelleher, Carriganima,  Noreen O Mahony, Park View, Joan Wall, Station Rd. Mary Murphy, Derinagree, Rosmarie Murphy. Coolikerane, and Bridget King Church St.

 

And please take note that because of St Patrick’s Day the weekly lotto Draw will be held on Monday of next week. It will take place at the Wallis Arms with a Jackpot of €7,800.
