“Clara News” Milestone – February 2013

The most recent edition of the ever-popular "Clara News" has just been published. It is the first issue of its 36th year. Very sadly, as so splendidly expressed by Editor, Denis Reardon, it is the second last issue of what has become such a truly treasured publication of so many Millstreet people at home and abroad for a complete generation and more. We encourage you to buy your copy of "Clara News" - still only one euro - because this issue and the final issue are bound to become veritable collectors' items. We especially thank Denis not only for having been such a captain supreme of this hugely important "Ship of Communication" for 35 years but also for his much appreciated recognition of the role of our Millstreet website. A special message,  so splendidly expressed by Editor, Denis Reardon, appears in the current issue:

  1. Am very sorry to hear that the clara news is coming to an end..I had the honour in writing the clara news notes for Aubane for eight year up to two years ago…It would be great if we could find someway to continue the clara news. This publication is sent all over the world…I remember when living in Australia i always loved getting the clara news as it kept me in touch with home… Millstreet please row in together to continue this historical publication.

  2. Oh dear! I will miss it. When it arrived in my mailbox I dropped everything and sat down for a read even though I have been gone for 50 yrs! Any chance of saving it?? Putting on-line, perhaps??

  3. So sorry to hear of the Clara News ending. It has provided a valuable link for myself and many others to events at home for decades. The Millstreet website is excellent but the Clara News was all we had at one time. It was a pleasure to read and a great sign of community spirit, communicating information locally and around the planet!.

The editorials written by Denis Reardon will be the greatest loss from my perspective, life always came to a standstill in Cardiff whilst I digested his latest comments. He has been a talented editor often making entertaining observations the rest of us failed to see about local events and national politics, doing so with a sharp sense of humour and cutting edge.

To Denis,Sean,John, Eily and all other local contributors many thanks for your dedication over the years.

  4. This is an item I never, perhaps naively, expected to read and I am broken-hearted! I live abroad and the only thing, I ever request, is a copy of the Clara News. It brings home just a little bit closer. This website is wonderful but it can never be the same. I will be so sad to see it go. A Christmas edition perhaps?

There have been many unforgettable editorials with Denis’ intelligence and humour always shinning through. Thank you all for your time and dedication. Much appreciation for many years of local gossip and laughter. It really was full of personality and charm. Continued success to the Millstreet website 🙂

  5. so sad to hear its finishing, its gonna be a great loss for people.
pity someone cant take it over. well done to all involved ye did a great job.

  6. My father loved the Clara news and received it up to his death in 2008. My brother Gavin sent it to me in Las Vegas on a regular basis. I am so sorry to see it go, because it feels like the end of an era. The writers who contributed to the Clara news certainly knew their business and supplied a wonderfully written product. Like so many things in life, I took the Clara news for granted along with its long-suffering and self sacrificing staff.
