Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this Tuesday morning with a blanket of snow on the ground.

All roads lead to our Green Glens Arena this Saturday and Sunday February 9/10 for the fabulous Bride ‘n Groom Show. Presented by Chic Weddings and HI Magazine. The good news is that admission is entirely free throughout . There’s a give-away of €30,000  plus discounts of €2,500 for couples,

There will be two fashion shows each day. And it’s all to be enjoyed in the comfort of the mighty Green Glens Arena. And let me remind you once again that admission is free. You can download the brochure on the Millstreet Website.

A very large crowd availed of the Blessing of Throats on the Feast of St.Blaise. Many thanks to our Parish Priest Canon FitzGerald who coped with the extra work on his own.

Last week we wished Brendan O Sullivan the best of Luck at the Special Olympics in South Korea. This week we congratulate him and all the team on winning a Bronze Medal. He got a royal welcome from all in his native Rathduane on his return as well from Jerry Mullane and all at Cope in Mallow.

And still with competition, Steve Collins was heard to say on TV that his favourite place to contest his next big fight would be in Millstreet. Nice to think he still thinks of us.

  • MILLSTREET COMMUNITY SCHOOL: IHCPT – Iris Pilgrimage Trust Pre-Lent fundraising cake sale on next Saturday night 9th February in Parish Centre after Vigil Mass.

Four week Cookery Class with chef Frank Moynihan commencing at the CommunitySchool on 14th February at 8.00p.m. Enrolment for this class on next Thursday 7th Feb at 8.00p.m. in the school. Enquiries to (029) 70087.

And still with the same subject, A fundraising Card game with be held at the Kanturk Golf Course on February 15th at 8pm in aid of HOPE Calcutta. Please support it well.

 

Please be reminded that if you are a cancer patient or is involved with someone who is, then you are welcome at the Adult Learning Centre in the Town on this Thursday and the first Thursday of every month where you will meet other people who have a lot in common with you. Meet Mairead and Michelle, Have a cup of tea and take it from there. It’s on from 10.30 am to 12noon. Contact number is 087 903 14 75.

 

The AGM of our Community Council will held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday February 12th. At 9.

 

The AGM of our Juvenile GAA Club has been rescheduled to take place on to-morrow Wednesday night at the GAA Hall at 8 and they are making an earnest appeal to parents to come out and help. Otherwise this important Club could fall apart.

 

The sponsored Weigh-In continued in Cullen last night. 44 people weighed and 118 pounds  weight lost.

First Aid course coming up at the pub in Carriganima over two nights, February 13th and Feb 20th. The course will include defibrillator training.

RTE are making a documentary on the O Sullivan Beara Way from Bearra to Brefni and Millstreet will be featured in it. The RTE researcher was in the area during the week and made note of the best of our fine scenery and historic sites which will be included in the film. Filming starts in March.

 

Sadly our approach roads are fast becoming nothing less than dumping grounds. In spite of the great efforts of some there are those who have no regard for their local place. Please stop throwing rubbish on our roadsides.

 

Eucharistic Adoration in all three Churches of the Parish during the week. Millstreet on Tuesday and Wednesdays from 10.30 am to  10.30 pm in Cullen on Thursdays at the same times and Ballydaly on Fridays from 5 until nine. Please give a little time to the Lord. Confessions in MillstreetChurch every Saturday from 12.30 to 1.

 

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at Tarrant’s Bar on Sunday night.

Numbers drawn were 1, 3, 16, 31 . and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to the O’Reilly Family Cloghoulabeg, the seller was Rita O Reilly and she got €50 sellers prize. €50 went to Michelle Forde, Cork,  €20 each to Noreen Foley, Vickerstown, Greta and Denis Healy, Killarney Rd. Mary Murphy, Drishane Rd,   J Carroll, Liscarroll, K Ryan, Killarney Rd. Jim Broxton, Cloghoula, Agnes Dineen, Rathduane , and Breda Cronin, Priest’s Cross. Jackpot for next week €6,800 the draw at the Bush Bar on Sunday night.
