Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1151 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this cold, icy, snowy, wintery Tuesday Morning.

This morning we send our best wishes to the lovely Sheila O Riordan formerly of Ballydaly and now at Teach Altra, on celebrating her 100th birthday. Her family and friends have planned a gala party to mark her big event, and we wish her continued health and happiness in the future.

All are invited to the Official opening of our E Centre in the Town Square on to-morrow Wednesday at 3.30 pm.

The Annual Machinery Show which was held at the Green Glens Arena for two days last week drew great crowds, and exhibitors were very pleased with the results. Local businesses also benefited from the extra crowds that it brought into town.

Next up at the same venue will be the spectacular Bride and Groom Show on February 9/10th.

The AGM of the Community Council will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Tuesday February 12th, starting at 9pm.

 

Let me remind you again that the CommunitySchool play is on this week. Starting at the School to-night and continuing on to-morrow Wednesday and again on Thursday nights. This year they are staging the hilarious comedy Funny Money. Please give them your best support, Show each night at 8.

Juvenile GAA club are holding their AGM on Wednesday January 23rd at 8pm in the GAA hall [kitchen] all parents please attend as the club will not continue without your support.

 

The Proceeds of the Aubane Christmas Day Climb of Mushera Mountain will be presented to “Suicide Aware,” at their Social Centre,  tomorrow Wednesday night  January 23rd. at 8 pm and all are welcome.

 

Still with Aubane their St Johns GAA Football Club will hold their AGM on Sunday January 27th,  at 3 in the afternoon. All Welcome.

 

Meanwhile out at the pub in Carriganima they will hold a 2day

First Aid Course in the near future. 8 to 16 people are needed to make the coarse viable so please ring Seanie 087 26 00 640 and put your name on the list, without delay

 

The Annual ten-weeks, Weigh-In took off to a great start in Cullen last night, just the place to lose all the extra pounds we put on at Christmas and all in a good cause, in aid of their Special Needs association.

 

Our vibrant development group and all bodies in the town are busy preparing a program for the Gathering in the months ahead. More about that as time goes on.

 

All items for the next issue of Clara News are due in to the Editor not later than this Thursday.

 

Arising from the recent spate of break-ins, people are reminded to be extra vigilant and report any unusual happenings to the Gardai or to their neighbours. Our Community Council are about to work with the local gardai in setting up a neighbourhood watch in the area in an effort to make our people feel safer in their own homes and to protect their property.

 

Many thanks to C103 for giving Mairead Daly and Michelle O Keeffe the opportunity last week, to tell on air of the new support that they are making available to Cancer sufferers. They meet at the Adult Learning Centre on the first Thursday of every month from 10.30 am to 12 noon. Contact number is  087 903 14 75.

 

Eucharistic Adoration is in all three churches every week. Slips of paper are made available where people can put their requests in writing and placed in the box. This box is put in the Adoration room and will be included in the prayers of all who worship there.

The Duhallow Senior Scor Finals take place in Kanturk Golf Club on this Friday night commencing at 8pm with both Millstreet and St. John’s clubs  well represented.

 

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the Clara Inn on Sunday night. Numbers drawn were,

6,9,23, 25 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Anita and Sean c/o Patsy Mac. The seller was Patsy Mac and he got €50 sellers prize. €50 went David Guiney, Minor Row. €20 each to Mairead Cronin, Main St, D Golden, Tullig, Denis Healy, Station Rd.   1. Due to poor weather conditions, Millstreet Juvenile GAA AGM has been postponed until Tuesday January 29th in Parish Centre at 8pm. All parents are requested to attend. The club will not continue without your full support.
