Dia is mhuire diobh go leir a cairde and welcome to News Report 1144 from Millstreet. Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this rather wintery Tuesday Morning. The first one in December.  And do you know that this December has five Saturdays, five Sundays and five Mondays, It won’t happen again for over 800 years.

The Christmas Market organised by our Development Group was a great success in the comfort of the GAA Hall on Saturday and Sunday. Many new features added, to bring more joy to the occasion.  The new calendar for 2013 was on sale. It was an instant success with people delving into its pages to discover all the lovely features that are in it. At a mere €5, people bought up many copies to send to friends in many parts of Ireland as well as to those all over the world.

The calendar contains details of all the events that Millstreet has planned for 2013, the Year of the Gathering. So get your copy now and plan ahead.

The Christmas issue of Clara News is out also and the two together will make an ideal gift for the Festive Season.

Beautiful Christmas Cards  hand made by Cope  are on sale in many places and our Transition Year Students have also put their very own Christmas cards on the market. Please look out for them.

Buy your stamps by the book to cut down the work of our hardworking staff in our post Office.

And as we speak the town is being adorned with mini Christmas trees on the private houses, thanks to all the residents.

The customary Christmas tree is beaming bright in the town Square. Our shops are full of wonderful gift ideas, and please be reminded that practical gifts like coal or heating oil etc. are all the rage this Christmas.

 

The Christmas Lights committee would like to say a sincere word of thanks to all those who supported their recent church gate collection which amounted to over $1,200

On Monday next, December 10th, the moment we’ve all been waiting for, an open day at the E Centre in the Square. All are welcome to come and see what it’s all about from 10am to 12noon. Monday December 10th.

 

On next Saturday December 8th the annual 45Drive in aid of our local hospital will be held at the Green Glens  Arena, starting at 8.45. Please support it well.

 

Our St Vincent de Paul Church Gate collection will take place this weekend , December 8/9 again a great cause in need of your support.

 

LTV2 Millstreet are making brave bids to return to your screens Macroom Station is back to their usual slot on Wednesday nights at 9.30 and the repeats start on Sundays at 5.30. Millstreet Station is scheduled to make their return on Thursday December 20th at 10 all going well.

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at Tarrants Bar on Sunday night.

December 16th, that novelty event, that I’ve been telling you about, when the Broomhill Vintage Club, All Ireland Champions will assemble a tractor in record time inside in the Bar at 3.30pm. Proceeds to Suiside Awareness. Don’t miss this one-off event.

 

And they will have the annual visit from Santa on Sunday December 23rd when he arrived by Horse & Cart at 3pm.

The lovely Denise Kelleher will launch her CD at the GlenTheatreon Sunday Dec. 16th, at 8.30pm Music by the Kelt.

 

If you have suffered from Cancer or is close to someone who has, then you are invited to the Adult Learning Centre  on our Main St. every Thursday of the month from 10.30 am to 12noon where you will meet others who have already travelled that road.  Relax in the warm atmostphere and have a cup of tea and friendly chat.
