The Narrow Mountain Roadway

Across so many bridges above river, stream and rill
Up the steep rise from Rylane to Mushera and to Aubane downhill
And on uphill to Tullig the road winds up and down
The back road from Cork City that leads to Millstreet Town.

A narrow mountain roadway through the hilly countryside
Through a rugged scenic valley that is known far and wide
Since tourists from all Nations have often passed this way
The scenery breathtaking on a clear and windless day.

The narrow mountain roadway above old Togher bog
That often in the Winter is blanketed by fog
That steals across the valley down from the higher ground
To hide away the scenery for miles and miles around.

By the narrow mountain road in Spring and Summer the wildflowers are in bloom
The shorter drive from Millstreet to Cork City that bypasses Macroom
Through green and fertile valleys and by hills where bracken grow
I last drove on that roadway some twenty years ago.
