Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this the very first day of May and it is raining continuously.
Our Joanne acquitted herself well in New York during the week. Her gift of endearing herself to people wherever she goes, became very evident on the 6 o’clock news when her cheery disposition shone through. At the same time she pressed ahead to make her plea before the United Nations Assembly, to make her world and that of people similar to herself a better place.
Her week-long stay in the Big Apple was a whirlwind of exciting events, but it did not stop her from sending a good luck message home to the Cork Team in Croke Park on Sunday. And it proved a very moving gesture to all concerned. But it looks like her travels are only starting. Next stop Saudi Arabia. And continued Good Luck to her.
In spite of the bad forecast, the weather remained good for all our outdoor pursuits over the weekend. The Monster Mac on Saturday was an outstanding success. Last year there were 150 entries this year it was 300. Our beautiful country Park was a hive of activity, being the centre point of the entire event.
People came from all parts of the country to take part. The main event comprising of a Trail Run 8km, Road Bike run 20km, Mountain Run 10km Road Bike 25km and Kayak 400 m. It was indeed a gruelling course, and many congratulations to our own Brian Murphy, Knocknakilla on coming 2nd overall. The winner was Adrian Hennessy, from Kilfinnan.
There were other less testing courses including some for the ladies. Don O’Riordan Tullig finished third in the BabyMAC, his first adventure course. The day was cold but sunny and bright and people were in awe of the beautiful scenery all round.
The organisers were full of praise for the help they got from our local volunteers, or Marshals as they call them at the end of the day it was a wonderful display of community co-operation.
Still with Community co-operation, our Vintage Club held their draw at the Wallis Arms on Sunday afternoon, following their outing. Many thanks to Mikie Healy for these results.

This coming Thursday will see the closing of yet another very successful term of Living Scenes at the Community School. It has been going here now for seven years and proved very popular and beneficial to both students and elders. There will be an open night at the school on Thursday night and everybody is welcome to come along and see what has been achieved when the young and not so young got together. Refreshments will be served.

The annual Ballinagree Cope Fundraising Walk will be held on this Sunday May 6th , From Ballyvourney to Ballinagree via Macroom. Followed by refreshments and a social evening at Ballinagree. This will be the biggest weekend of the year at our fabulous Millstreet Country Park. Many new features have been added to the Park in recent times, but this weekend will see a whole array of crafts and machines that have sadly given way to modern methods.
The sound of the anvil will ring out on the slopes of Mushera Mountain as the smithy shows off his skills. Look up the website for all the details. The event will run for Thursday to Sunday May 3rd to 6th. And an event not to be missed.

Our Pitch n Putt Club are offering four sessions of coaching this season. For Juvenile boys and girls as well as adults .Starting this Thursday evening at 7. The following three Thursdays will be at 7.30.
Plans are afoot to re-enact the Millstreet Athletic Club and a very important meeting will be held at the GAA Hall on Monday night next May 7th starting at 8. All interested people please attend.
Millstreet overcame Kilbrin in the Duhallow Junior A Hurling League. On this Tuesday evening, Millstreet meet Dromtariffe in the Ducon Cup in Millstreet at 8pm while on Bank Holiday Monday, Millstreet are away to Freemount in the Junior A Hurling League at 2pm.
