  1. Having recently met P.J. Cronin in Millstreet, we are delighted to learn that he and his family are wonderfully loyal and regular visitors to http://www.millstreet.ie and that they also view our weekly online LTV2 programmes. We all have great memories of the Cronin Family and the exquisite home and garden of No. 1, Murphy’s Terrace, Millstreet. Uplifting also to note how very attractive their former home and garden looks in 2012. Our very best wishes to all the Cronin Family and to Musician supreme and Photographer, Kevin McDermott who often played magnificent music at McCarthy’s Bar, Millstreet with the late John “Sing” O’Sullivan.

  3. My father’s mother was Mary Cronin and her parents emigrated to the US from (it is said in our family) from Millstreet, County Cork, sometime during the famine. Her parents eventually settled in Lapeer County, Michigan, on the shores of Pero Lake. They farmed the land there and have a large stained glass window dedicated to them in Immaculate Conception Church in the city of Lapeer. Mary Cronin married Edward Francis Mears: she passed away in 1924 and he died 13 years later. Both are buried in the Mears family plot in Flint, Michigan, where they lived in the Northwest part of town. They had seven children, of whom my father, Edward Patrick Mears, was one. If you have any information that might pertain to the branch of the Cronins that apparently forms a part of my family, please let me know. I will be in Millstreet for part of a day at the end of October–never been there before although I have visited Ireland many times. Thank you. Patrick E. Mears

    1. Her parents were Philip Cronin and Mary Leary. They seem to have emigrated 1849/50 in case anybody recognises this family. Also Mary may have had a sister Frances Leary who married a Michael Roach.

  4. Dear Ms. Hackett: Thank you very much for refreshing my recollection about Philip and Mary Cronin. I believe that you are correct about the Frances Leary/Michael Roach connection. As a child, I remember being introduced to Roaches in the Flint, Michigan area as my cousins. My father and mother also socialized with DeVerne Cronin, who was my father’s cousin. This is very helpful and thank you again. Best wishes, Pat Mears
