Today is Shrove Tuesday, time to have a feast of those lovely pancakes before giving up some of our favourite things for Lent.

Our Community School is putting on three weekly Lenten Talks , for adults over the next three weeks. They will be held on Monday nights, starting on next Monday night February 27th at 8 with a talk by Fr Peter McAverry entitled ,    “Jesus the Compassionate One”


Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and a day of Fast and Abstinence. Holy Ashes will be distributed at both 10 am and 7.30 pm Masses in Millstreet and in Cullen at 8.15pm.

Notes for the next issue of Clara News are due in to the Editor on Friday February 24th.

The organisers of the recent Cake Sale in aid of our Students who are going to Lourdes at Easter, as helpers ,would like to say many thanks to all those who supported them and  raised €600 for the cause.

The Annual March Fair will be held in the town on Sunday March 4th.

The Dromtarriffe ICA  will host a talk by Mary Culinane on Cancer and Healthy Living tonight, starting at 8.30.

The Eucharistic Congress will be held in Dublin in June from 10-17. Millstreet have been allocated 26 tickets. Application forms are available at our Parish Office, 029  70043.

Our sympathy goes to the Kelleher Family Kilmeedy whose brother, 59yr old, Desmond passed away in Australia last week.RIP. His removal will be on Friday night February 24th. From Tarrants Funeral Home. See the papers for details. We offer our deepest sympathy to the Family.

Millstreet Vintage Club Rally will be held on Easter Sunday April 8th at K & L Deliveries Yard in Mount Leader. Proceeds as always to various charaties.

Community Council meeting at the Wallis Arms Hotel to-night, Matters for discussion, the  Awards Social and the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Starts at 9. All welcome.

The Community Council Awards Social will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday March 2nd. Tickets at €25 each are on sale from any member. Music on the night by the ever popular Kelt.

Only four more nights left at the Weigh In in Cullen. Last night 60 people attended and 105 pounds weight lost.

Lots of people do not still know what our Menshed is. Our Menshed is in other words a men’s club. It is strictly for the boys, boys of all ages. It is a non-drinking Club so there is no problem about getting home. But there is a smoking area. It is in a cosy little house at lower Pound Hill. In time when they are properly set-up they intend to engage games such as cards, or rings, etc.  also hobbies and crafts and they are asking if people have any woodwork tools etc that they no longer need, they would love to have them. Remember they are open every Tuesday morning from 10 to 1 and Tuesday nights from 7.pm. Men of all ages welcome.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in our Church every Wednesday from 10.30 am to 10.30 pm.  Mass in Millstreet Church every morning at 10, except on Fridays when its at 7.30 pm.

Slips of paper are available at the bottom of the Church where people can write  their requests, place them in the box and it will  be placed in the Adoration Chapel where they will be included in the prayers of all who go there.

Program 203 of LTV2 is on this week at the usual time or at any time on your laptop or computer.

And please take note that the religious program on local TV this Sunday evening at 5o clock  will feature Mass which was recorded in Ballydaly.

GAA

Millstreet drew with Kilbrin in the Ducon Cup on Sunday. Next Sunday, Millstreet are scheduled to play Croke Rovers provisionally in the U21 Football Championship in Millstreet at 3pm.

Scor

Millstreet are well representated in the Duhallow Scor na bPaist’­ finals operating in Limire on Friday at 7.3opm and Kanturk on Kanturk on Sunday at 1.30pm.

The County Senior Scór finals takes place in the Eire Og GAA Pavillion, Ovens on Saturday night at 7pm with both St. John’s and Millstreet involved.

Many congratulations to Sean Óg O’Connor son of  John and Mags, Station Road, on winning the Munster, Boy 4 Boxing  Final at Nenagh and now goes forward to the All Ireland Final which will be held at the National Stadium in Dublin on Friday March 2nd.

Here are the results of this week’s parish lotto draw which was held at the Mal Passo Bar on Sunday night .Numbers drawn were. 9, 10, 11, 18 and the Jackpot was not won. €100 went to Timmy Conlon, Kilcorney, The seller was Adrian at the Wallis Arms and he got €50 sellers prize. €50 went to Andrew & Marie , Dennehy, c/o Graces Salon. €20 each to Emma, Maria, Matthew, Ceader Drive, Tommy Collins Dromina, Mark Duggan. Jackpot for next week €5,400 the draw at McCarthys Bar on Sunday night.
