Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this cold, wet and windy morning.

A very pleasant function was held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday night to mark the retirement of our local County Council Engineer, Martin Corcoran,  It was attended by many high ranking  members of  Cork Council.
And a presentation was made to Martin in appreciation of his almost forty yearly of dedicated service to the area.

Well done to our Community School Students who acquitted themselves so well at the young Scientist of the Year Exhibition at the RDS last week. Their range of new thinking really impressed the judges and they were honoured to come away with a high commendation. They were sponsored by the Millstreet
Community Council. Details on our Website.

At the Monthly Meeting of the Community Council which was held on Tuesday night at the Wallis Arms Hotel  it was announced that this years Awards Social will be held at the said venue on Friday Night March 2nd.

There are six categories, and the worthy recipients are Joanne O Riordan, she gets the Youth Achievement Award. Special Achievement award goes to out Tidy Towns Committee, Sporting Award Mark Ellis. Culture award Aubane Social Club. Humanitarian Award Mary O Sullivan Meenskehy. And Unsung Hero, Patricia Guerin.

At the same meeting the replacement of the Cross on top of Clara Mountain was discussed and work will be carried out  there in the  near future. The contract going to local business man Kieran O’Sullivan.

And  work on  the placing of Astro Turf surface of our Tennis court is also on the list for the near future.

Notes for the Spring issue of Clara News are due in to the Editor this Friday January20th.

The AGM of St.John’s GAA Club will be held at the Kilcorney Community Centre on Sunday Next January 22nd at 5pm.

The AGM of our Golf Society will be held at  the Bridge Bar on this Thursday night  at 9.30.

Set Dancing resumes in Ballydaly to-morrow, Wednesday night at 8.30. All welcome.

The Staff of Our Lady’s Ward of Crumlin Rd Hospital for sick children want to say a sincere word of thanks to all those who sent in Children’s DVDs, and the message is, please keep them coming . When your children
have outgrown them hand them in at our local Post Office and Patricia will take them from there.

Millstreet Juvenile GAA Social will be held at the Wallis Arms Hotel on Friday January 27th. Tickets go on Sale tonight, January 17th  from 7 -8 in the Youth Centre.

Our   monthly Gramophone Circle Meeting takes place this Friday night January20th at 8.15 at the Canon O Donovan Centre, Presenter Margaret Moynihan, Killarney. All are welcome.

The Marian Players in Rathmore are about to stage their annual Panto, for the 25th year. This time it is the popular Cinderella. Opening on Saturday January 28th. See posters for details.

The annual Weigh-In opened in Cullen last night, a massive 150 weighed In. Well up on previous years. Continues every Monday night for ten weeks.

Our very first Mens-Shed will be open  at Pound Hill,  from 10 to 1 this morning and from 7-9  this evening. Men of all ages welcome. Contact 087 679 38 41 for details.

Our Knitting Club is on twice every Tuesday at 10.30 in the Library and from 7 -9 at the Adult Learning Centre in the Main St. All Welcome. Various Crafts also welcome.

The 50th Eucharistic Congress takes place in Dublin from June 10th to the 17th and they are looking for volunteers. If youd like to be one, visit iec2012 website. Or ring 01 234 99 00.

Macroom TV is on every Wednesday, Millstreet Thursday at ten and don’t miss the feast of local TV every Sunday evening starting at 5.

Here are the results of this week’s parish Lotto Draw which was held at the Clara Inn on Sunday night.

Numbers drawn were 1, 6, 19 ,30 and the jackpot was not won. €100 went to Peg Murphy, Banteer, The seller was Herlihy Centra.
