It’s a long way from Australia more than twelve thousand miles away
From County Cork and Ireland and the fields of Claraghatlea
But Mick Kelleher made that air trip he returned on holiday
And though the journey proved quite tiring he enjoyed his three months stay.

With him came his charming Aussie wife Rosemary and his lovely family
To live with him in the old place where he once lived happily
In the fields by Clara mountain where he hunted as a boy
Those were happy days for Michael and good memories never die. continue reading…

Dia is mhuire diobh go leir  a cairde and welcome to news report 1092 from Millstreet.

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this wet Tuesday morning  following a night of high winds an heavy rains.

We were indeed deeply honoured at the weekend when the Eucharistic Bell was brought to our Church. A very large crowd turned up for the historic event and after prayers everybody was invited to come to the altar and ring the bell. We all went up knowing that we will never again get the chance again. People came from many other places to see it and we were so proud of our beautiful church all lit up for the occasion. Next morning it resumed  its journey through the highways and byways of Ireland.

To honour and remember the first Millstreet Town Park Committee members (and also people who have contributed so much to the care of the Town Park over many years) a special plaque has recently been put in place at Millstreet Town Park. This gesture is so very appropriate in that those wonderfully community-spirited people in the Ireland of the 1950s were so supremely far-seeing and conscious of what a magnificent setting like our Town Park (within our town) would mean for future generations. And how right they were! What a truly exquisite amenity we have in our town. Very special credit is due not only to the early pioneers of this great project and who are recalled on the impressive plaque but also to the present-day Town Park Committee. We thank Jerry Lehane for alerting us to this most deserving of monuments which is now permanently in place at the Town Park. Long may future generations enjoy such a marvellous environmental gem. (S.R.)

Oh I love Cloghoula countryside when wild flowers are in bloom
Just outside the Town of Millstreet on the way out towards Macroom
When the birds are singing gaily and new leaves are on the trees
And the brown bog larks are piping o’er the bogland of Gneeves.

Oh I love you sweet Kilmeedy at the back of Clara hill
I have always been in love with you and doubtless I always will
You are beautiful and peaceful and your fields are evergreen
And you wake to greet each dawning day like a rare beauty queen.
