Walk in the footsteps of legends as Millstreet’s upcoming Festival traces the route of O’ Sullivan Bere’s epic winter march over 400 years ago from Castletown Bere to Leitrim!
Our ‘A’ Walk between Ballyvourney and Millstreet traces the route over arguably the most rugged and beautiful part of this entire journey.
We earnestly hope to finish the day with less casualties than O’ Sullivan Bere suffered!!
Our ‘B’ & ‘C’ Walks are similarly rewarding with no less a personage than Minister for Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar stating that our ‘B’ Walk (The Claragh Loop) is his ‘ favourite festival walk of 2011′ .
Our ‘ C’ Walk reflects the historical influence of landlords in Millstreet. Commencing at the Wallis Arms Hotel and taking us past the ruins of the once magnificent Mount Leader Estate to a viewing point on Claragh Mountain overlooking Millstreet and the Blackwater Valley.
Full restaurant facilities are provided by the Wallis Arms Hotel which is Base Camp for the Festival.
Looking forward to you joining us for what is certain to be a memorable walking experience.

Millstreet Celtic lost at home 2-1 to Innishvilla this morning. Both teams were slow to get going and there were no notable chances for the first 20 mins. We created our first chance when a ball broke for Barry Lawlor at the edge of the box but he shot just over. Shortly after Tadhg Collins got free down the left and whipped over a great cross for Lawlor who just couldn’t stretch enough to divert the ball goalwards. Innishvilla took the lead in the 35th min affter we were caught out by a quick free kick. The 2nd half was better by both sides and we almost got level after 55 mins when Collins got clear but his shot went wide. 5 mins later we were level when Collins was fouled in the box. Tim Kiely slotted home to make it 1-1. There were half chances at both ends but it was Innishvilla who took the lead in the 70th min. We kept pushing for the equaliser but couldn’t find the net. Best for us on the day were Brian Murphy and Barry Lawlor.
Team: Piotr Oziast, Shane Collins, Eamon O Keeffe, Tim Kiely, Trevor O Connor, John Lehane, Michael Murphy, Brian Murphy, Eric Hickey, Barry Lawlor, Tadhg Collins
Subs: Darek Sroka (60th min), Finbarr Corcoran (70th min), Adrian O Connor (85th min), John Cullinane
Aidan McCaul’s hardware & furniture shop is in business for 30 years this year in Millstreet. It started in Minor Row in June 1981 in the old Hibernian Dance Hall (owned by Kit Radley who was a grocery shopkeeper next door) after Buckley’s Stores went out of business. A year later it moved to the Square after Aidan purchased former executive offices of Buckleys, gutted them & turned them into a shop. For the past 30 years the business has continued with Aidan & Tim Long present throughout that time. In later years Aidan’s son Tony has also worked in the business.
