Nora Crowley 1918-2011. It was with great sadness that the family and friends of Nora Crowley (née Murphy) Knockanish, The Spa, learned of her passing on Saturday, July 9. Nora was one of the oldest surviving members of the community of Spa parish.

Born on February 15, 1918 in her beloved Kilcorney, Millstreet she witnessed many dramatic events in her long life. In 1944 she married James and they set up home in The Spa where she lived until September 2009. They were blessed with a family of five boys and one girl.

Nora was a loving wife and caring mother and devoted all her life to her family. While she was a shy and retiring lady, she still touched the lives of many people and in her eyes everyone was special and important…… Read the full article on the Kerryman:

Hello Millstreet,
I understand this is the place to find Dennehy history and I hope you can help me. I’m looking for info on my father’s family who came from Millstreet. My grandfather was Daniel Dennehy born Sept. 1868 – died in the U.S. Sept.20, 1905. He married Ellen Riordan, also from Millstreet. I don’t know if they were married here or there but they immigrated in 1892. They had five children, my father Dennis born 1895, Patrick born 1897, Jeremiah born 1899, Cornelius born 1902 and Ellen born 1904. Eventually all the children wound up in the U.S. with the exception of Cornelius, I believe. I am going to be in Ireland the week of Aug. 1 and will be stopping in Millstreet, short notice I know but am interested in checking any records that I can. If anyone has any info they can contact me at the above e-mail address. Thanking you in advance.

From 11th – 15th July, Millstreet Juvenile Club hosted a very successful VHI GAA Cul Camp in the Town Park. 94 primary school children took part in the camp under the expert eye of  qualified coaches Steven Mannix (Banteer), Kevin Hallissey (Eire Og), Leah Westwood (Ballincollig), Christopher Buckley (Mourneabbey) and Michael Murphy (Millstreet). These coaches were ably assisted by local minor, u21 and Junior players (Eric Hickey,Denny Twomey, Len Murphy, Alanna Barry, Cliona O’ Callaghan and Michael Vaughan)  and the children thoroughly enjoyed their fun-packed week of G.A.A. activities. Cork Senior Footballer Paddy Kelly visited the camp and was more than happy to give advice,  go through some drills with the participants as well as autograph the personal belongings of all the children. Along with the VHI Cul Camp kit which included a jersey, shorts, socks and gear bag, the children each received a medal at the end of the week to acknowledge the efforts they put into the learning of their new skills during the week. Millstreet Juvenile Club would like to thank all those who supported the camp and look forward to VHI CUL CAMP 2012!

Fondest greetings dear listeners and I wish you all the very best on this lovely calm warm Tuesday morning.

The pleasant weather over the weekend gave people of all ages a welcome chance to enjoy the great out of doors. The annual vintage and old time threshing day in Cullen was an outstanding success. Their varied program ensured that there was something there for everyone.

So well done once again to the wonderful Special Needs Association.

In turn they want to thank all those who supported them and helped in any way with their latest fundraiser. The LTV crew were there to record it for your viewing when programs resume in the fall.

Large crowds strolled in the Country Park, while others took on some of our new loop walks.
